I feel like instead of that we should set up some therapy courses for neurotic gamers, letting them know they have permission at any time to stop doing something they don't want to do and move on at any time.

Why not both and whatnot. Valhalla is bloated to the point where it would be a better game if ti was more focused, gamer discipline notwithstanding.

Deputies say the suspect was booked on four counts of attempted murder and one count of burglary.

What would you have recommended her to do differently?

There's a cost / benefit to any broad, societal decision. Continuing to allow personal gun ownership results in tens of thousands of deaths per year by suicide, countless mass shootings, police paranoia which leads to more deaths, etc. There's simply no utility to pointing to cases where personal defense with a gun works; I don't deny that they exist. And there's unquestionably going to be harm that could be prevented with personal gun ownership that ends up not happening if it were to be outlawed. But the other side of the scale is still much heavier as evidenced by the rest of the developed world and a non trivial amount of the developing world as well.

Oh for fuck‘s sake are you Fox News brained still? Watch him on Seth Meyers and tell me Biden can’t “put cohesive sentences together”.

Biden's appearance on Meyers was "good" if we're grading on pretty steep curve.

I don't personally buy the "cognitive decline" narrative at large, but the best case scenario coming out of the 2024 election is whatever Biden's working with half a decade from now which is fucking grim. And this is coming from someone who thinks that experience is regularly and often dramatically undervalued. I also don't think this is some kind of broad failure of the DNC in general; you never really know how fast the wheels are going to fall off. My brother in law's grandmother in law is about 10 years older than Biden but moves, walks, and talks like she's 20 years younger than him. I thought she was 70 and almost refused to accept that she was 91, maybe there's something in the water in New Hampshire, they've got the butter microplastics or something. Maybe Biden will stay where he's at for a (hopeful) second term which would be... fine? But our guy he's lost a ton of MPH off whatever his fastball was even compared to the debates in 2020.

And yes, if Trump doesn't have a teleprompter, the man is a walking, barely sentient disaster, he's no fucking better in the domains where he regularly mocks Biden.

But a non trivial amount of politics, especially election politics, is optics. And Biden's optics are at best, "not good," there's just no way around that.

  4. Let's not pretend that Square Enix's attempts at cross game lore have ever been good. They have always been, currently are, and forever shall be... tire fires. It's still going to be okay, I promise. You'll be able to get by just fine if you haven't played Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Children Skullfucker McGee EX + Alpha Kingdom Hearts Edition. References, callbacks, and inspirations do not a plot make.

Games have always been able to run better and look better on PC.  Again, just because you don't like Nintendo's hardware, or think it should be more powerful, does not entitle you to play their games on different hardware.  People are talking about this issue as if we have some sort of right to access and play any and all games however we choose, which is wild

While the legality of emulating a video game that you own is already settled, something much more gray like Yuzu, which makes money emulating commercially available software and is directly enabling piracy for the vast majority of users, is not nearly as clear cut.

Pitching the notion of emulation as one of gamer entitlement is being pedantic to the point of fallacy.

I don't even know what you're advocating for or pushing back against in what I emphasized as I don't think anyone here is advocating for being able to do something like cheat in online games via trainers, or for piracy. Say what you mean.

Aside from that, we should be in favor of more / broader consumer rights and not fewer, absent compelling reasons. None of which are in play, here. Gaming EULAs or licensing agreements have always been fucked, we're just now entering an era where they can be easily enforced remotely. That sucks. It also says nothing about the fact that for a company like Nintendo specifically, it's problematic that inaccessible and incomprehensible EULAs govern the licensing for products that are often directly marketed to children who have no idea that they're paying for something that could be turned off tomorrow and their recourse for something like that is fuck all.

20 years after that Crossfire interview and subsequent explanations, we're still not getting his point, huh?

Nobody rational is looking for Stewart to solve the world's political problems and while he is, literally, a comedian, he's also a pundit. It's silly for anyone, particularly him, to pretend otherwise. He's very clearly not "just a comedian" when he's holding a political rally, going to Congress to advocate for taking care of 9/11 first responders, etc. More than one thing can be true and if we're aiming the DeLorean all the way back to the Crossfire appearance era... Stewart was interviewing presidential candidates on The Daily Show, lobbing softballs at John Kerry. In later elections he was giving airtime to Huckabee. It was always silly for Stewart to say he's just a comedian or that TDS was just a comedy show when you're interviewing POTUS candidates.

But this implies he has some kind of responsibility to get someone elected over another in the first place. He doesn't. And as we poked at above you are assigning way more power to the man than he actually has anyway.

But they proport to be. Stewart doesn't. That's the difference. As he covered what like two decades ago with his brilliant response to Tucker's same accusation. About the show before him being puppets who make prank phone calls.

Yes, obviously, an ostensible news outfit should be held to a higher standard than Comedy Central. Fucking of course. But if Stewart's responsibility is to be funny, then the shots he's taking at Biden for being old should... be funny.
