~*2023 election results thread*~
Chairslinger replied to Jason's topic in The Political Re-Education Camp
Man, that would be devastating to Republicans if they got it in Florida and that swung the state for Biden. Hard to imagine any scenario at this point where Dems win Florida but lose the election. To make matters worse for themselves.... 1. Florida is a state that relatively recently used such a measure to return voting rights to ex-felons, and the margin wasn't even that close. Not exactly an issue that is typically seen as a conservative staple. 2. This year DeSantis signed a 6 week ban into law. Something even DeSantis knew was so reprehensible that he did it in the dead of night with no fanfare. 3. While it has become less of a Purple state since Trump, it's still far less Red than some states that have already swung big on issues touching on abortion. Such as Kansas, Kentucky, and even Ohio. With the way that this issue has repeatedly surprised everyone with it's margin of support and staying power it does not seem out of reach that it could lift Biden the 3% that Trump beat him by in '20.... -

I love that. How dare young people have a say in reproductive rights! Clearly old men and women who have already went through menopause are the only ones who should be deciding abortion law! -

Apparently there was a lot of buzz that Youngkin would use a big night of R victories in Virginia to slingshot himself as a late entrant into the Republican primary and perhaps even replace DeSantis amoung the big money, "anybody but Trump" donors. Guess that won't be happening It's crazy how polarization and electoral tricks have made the Republican party one that is so structurally unstable and yet also a coin flip away from winning complete control of the government. -

Even if it's not a direct analog, if Dems can win Gov races in Kentucky and Mississippi that..... doesn't seem great for the GOP...... -
Maybe the quick and easiest way to demonstrate Trump's essential political nature as an authoritarian dictator is the casually insane ego masturbatory lies he tells about himself. You could change the names and it would be impossible to tell who was telling what lie between Trump's perfect election, Lil Kim's 38 under golf game, or Putin and his l33t hockey skills.

As if DeSanitizer needed more dirt piled on his corpse campaign have you seen that now he is embroiled in Bootgate? Trump, Mr. 6'4 himself is bad enough, but Ronny is just kind of sad. It reminds me of that joke about how no one appreciates the value of rounding up like a 5'11 guy on Tinder. If a guy is in cowboy boots and CLAIMING 5'11 than he is 5'9 at most

In today's episode of "Who you gonna believe, me or your lying eyes?" Trump now denies he ever said that Mexico would pay for the wall. In fact, he is big mad that the lying media has the gall to claim he ever said such a thing! And in case you find your brain trying to justify his denial in an attempt to prevent itself from imploding from an embolism to escape the stupidity(well maybe sometimes he said one thing and sometimes he said the other....) no you are not remembering wrong.....

Television RIP Matthew Perry.
Chairslinger replied to CastletonSnob's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
So sad. He was always by far my favorite Friend. Sadly, it has been apparent for a while that the years weren't being kind to him. I know there was substance abuse problems, and you could tell. -
Pence drops out of 2024 presidential race

"Mike Pence hangs...." *Intense cheering in Republican* "...up his gloves in the race for the Republican nomination for president." *Disappointed grumbles* -
I still remember a bonkers argument I had on this board probably almost a decade ago now. It was some bill or another that got passed with a bipartisan vote. And one of the conservatives that still posted here at the time insisted without shame or doubt or self awareness that the conservatives who went out of their way to keep X out of the bill now deserved a huge amount of credit for getting X done. It was like arguing with a funhouse mirror as he totally believed that something Dems were responsible for, and which they had to give concessions to get....was now something Republicans could take credit for because they ultimately voted for the bill. I always remember this argument in moments like this because Dems need to be aware that if they vote to support ANY Republican for Speaker they now own everything that Speaker does. For instance, as far as right wing talking points going forward they will have essentially endorsed the impeachment of Joe Biden.... I understand there might be political calculus to eventually supporting someone in some scenario, but they damn well better make sure it's worth it because Republicans will bludgeon them with every horrible thing they do from now until Nov. '24.

When you were younger did you ever have that one guy in your friend group that was nuts and when you were out doing something stupid you knew shit just got real when even that guy was like, "Oh fuck, it is time to get out of here!" I feel like Powell flipping should be that moment for the conspirators....

I care much more about existing content rather than sampling new stuff. Particularly TV shows. Netflix is by far the worst when it comes to offering classic content. I have 5 services and Netflix ain't one of them. Haven't had it for a year or two and haven't missed it in the least. I'll get a month or two once Stranger Things and Cobrai Kai's final seasons go up next year.

I wonder if there is some vicarious living going on with this one. Jordan and Hannity thought they could play Trump style bully ball on this(and maybe they could have if the margin wasn't so tight) but they got the opposite reaction. As in some Reps reacted like, "I may have had to kowtow to that orange bastard for years, but I'll be damned if I am going to be the bitch for some nobody from nowhere Ohio.....".

The standard and ad supported plans are staying the same. If there is one common theme to these services is that now that the boom is over they are all retreating to the ad supported models of older media. Netflix is just the most blatant. They are all kind of doing the "tax them towards the ads" type approach....

Television Archer S14 - The Final Season
Chairslinger replied to Spork3245's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
Just finished the show. Archer is kind of unique in that the show's quality didn't really go down. All the moving parts could be as sharp as ever during a scene. The problem is after 14 seasons and 150ish episodes you can only see "team goes on a mission that devolves into chaos" so many times. That's why, despite some misses, I think the experimental seasons were a good thing overall. At least they tried some different stuff.
