It's not even messaging. Read the article I posted. Being "true" to the original story just wouldn't come across right today no matter how much they beat you over the head with the whole unwilling experiments angle--it's not really possible to be "true" to the source nowadays because as the new actor says it would just come across as a weird Crying Game callback to modern-day audiences. Look at the female miniskirt uniforms in Star Trek TOS. In 1966 it was very clear to contemporary audiences that it was a pretty radical feminist statement to portray professional "military" women as not having to choose between their miniskirts and their careers. Whereas 50 years later we're so far past the mentality of that time period that it just comes across as exploitative of the actresses, and I don't think any amount of fourth wall breaking explanation would change that.

I've only seen the first episode so far but I liked what I saw. Going off some of the conversation above about this, maybe it helps that I don't actually remember many specifics of original since I haven't watched it in ages, so I'm not just sitting here comparing it to the anime as much as I would if it was fresh in my mind? I like that they're doing something different with the stylization. As for the slightly weird lack of fluidity in the combat, a thought occurred to me: have they ever explicitly said they're not using the manga as one of their sources and that they're exclusively going off the anime? Because the pauses kind of made me feel like maybe they're trying to make the combat feel like individual comic panels, which was also what they seemed to pretty clearly be going for throughout this one teaser trailer, shifting scenes by shifting them around like comic book panels. [edit] Plus, you know, that's also how the opening titles sequences for both versions are stylized.

I just do one spray on one of my wrists and rub my wrists together, and a second one on my neck if I'm like going out somewhere club-ish. Have not been wearing a lot lately though for obvious reasons and I also recently discovered that my go-to cologne was actually discontinued like 10 years ago. I've been buying it as needed since then but I guess I've just been buying old stock most of the time I've been wearing it. Not looking forward to eventually having to find a new cologne.
