  1. It's rhetorical, come on. Obviously the show didn't per se end with season five, but the narrative did. Here's the thing. When you write a story you have to take it to the end. The central conflict has to play the key role in resolving the problem that will fix everything; and when I say everything I mean a conflict beyond which nothing could be greater.
  2. I'll do real sugar in moderation before I'll do any artificial sweetener other than sucralose. But man please drop the hfcs. It's easy these days.
  3. Still one of my top five shows. It's not just that the quality dipped after season five, it's that the story ended in season five and attempting to carry it on had to ignore the ultimate resolution. It didn't cheapen what came before but it existed in a space that could never be as serious because the attempts at greater challenges were transparent failures and the central conflict was boring because it was actually resolved with finality in season five. I, like a lot of fans and obviously the people who ran and performed in the show, wanted to keep the good vibes rolling but anything after five is at best a shadow or echo of greatness. As far as the number of episodes I totally disagree. TV lost something when it lost the case-of-the-week format. Could the "story" of Supernatural be told with fewer episodes per season? Sure, but it wouldn't be an unadulterated good. I've seen other shows recently that I felt needed more episodes. Characters don't get a chance to breathe in their own skin anymore and in some cases I think it's been for the worse. Not for nothing I think Supernatural struck that perfect balance between freak of the week and a larger story. Better than any other show. The Boys could learn something.
  4. Especially since that has an inherent implication that we should have listened in the first place.
  5. We should definitely give no quarter to idiots making an idiotic argument for political ends with no evidence even if it later turns out that there's some evidence. There is absolutely no reason to ever say "wow the lunatic bigoted vibes-based ravings of people who don't care about any inconvenient truth were actually right this time."
  6. I remember I think around 2010 when DoD blocked Facebook for security reasons. Lasted about two weeks before it was reversed for "morale" reasons.
  7. Dealing with people who don't seem to respect that you can't just ban people who are annoying and then blame you for making the place what it is .. yeah, worst part of the job. Believe me when I say every time I thought to myself that I'm glad to not have to deal with it anymore is definitely gratitude.
  8. And being upset at Shia Labeouf at that point is very fair.
  9. Crystal Skull was distractingly sad, can't be sure it was bad. Super obvious that Ford wasn't doing any of the things they were pretending Indy could suddenly do.
  10. Right but that just makes it the paper of the aristocracy, not the paper of record. It's only been allowed to stay the paper of record as long as the aristocracy represented the voting majority.
  11. Complicated thoughts here but I don't want to go all the way off like I know the whole situation. Really agitated to hear that someone's partner could be abusing insecurity for leverage though. Especially insecurity that I have a lot of personal experience with. I'm just going to say that's fucked up but reserving judgment. Hope it works out.
  12. I thought all these great songs were different bands and you're telling me it's only Steely Dan? FUCK I can't be this old already.
