I don't think we even know enough to determine if the kids weren't just mistaken. Kill to defend your life and home, okay. But you should be obligated to use lethal force as a last resort as not open fire just because someone you don't know happens to simply exist within the bounds of the address on your deed.

I would argue not, but it's clear that the question of whether regulating something out of practical use is tantamount to infringing on rights has an answer that's very much up in the air. See: drugs, abortion.
