  1. Nope is awesome, here are some reasons why I'm right. It also gets points for having one of the best scenes to come out of an otherwise very sedate film and yes, that's not sped up.
  2. I would watch Us first before Nope. His filmmaking becomes more surreal and slow with each passing film. Nope is a pretty slow-burn and sometimes existential affair. I think it's absolutely worth a watch (it's at times basically a modern western in some ways) though I'm not sure you specifically will like it, so I'd give Us a go first, which is less abstract an experience than Nope is.
  3. Have you seen Jordan Peele's previously written/directed films Get Out and Us? If so, how did you feel about those?
  4. Perhaps your mind went to this? Or this? Perhaps this? Possibly this? Or maybe this? Or maybe you were thinking of a previous Ryan Gosling film whose day job in the film is already as a stuntman? Yes, this was just an excuse to post these. It is also amusing that Ryan Gosling has now starred in films titled The Nice Guys, First Man, The Gray Man and now The Fall Guy. It's also funny that the Vin Diesel and The Rock video games Wheelman and SpyHunter: Nowhere to Run are orphaned game tie-ins to cancelled film projects for their respective stars.
  5. That makes a lot of sense, I hope that's not the case but definitely could be. Team Ninja games do take awhile to open up (at least in that they get a lot deeper with time), be interesting to see aggregate final reviews and word of mouth.
  6. I think a lot will depend on how one felt about their previous three games Nioh, Nioh 2 and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. They are all similar in many ways and while this adds new layers, I'm sure it will have a similar feel in many ways as well. I like those games so while it will probably take me awhile to get to this, I'm definitely interested, but divisive does make sense given the kinds of games Team Ninja makes.
  7. The great Yasumi Matsuno has chimed in, saying to a question about making a new game, to play Unicorn Overlord for now. High praise coming from the creator of Ogre Battle, Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, and Final Fantasy 12. Final Fantasy Tactics Director Wants You To Play Unicorn Overlord KOTAKU.COM Yasumi Matsuno is one of the most vocal admirers of Vanillaware’s tactics RPG
  8. I did not, but I have had a problem lately with full screening the stream as the stupid playback overlay won't go away in full screen. I figured out a way (something to do with the position of the mouse on the screen) to get rid of it but I've forgotten what it was, either way it's stupid.
  9. This is what I hoped/expected. It's Alex Garland.
  10. Another great episode of the series. Some brutal stuff this episode, I look forward to the final three.
  11. Yeah I mean I get people who enjoy the Tangerine Dream one, especially those who grew up with it, but with the extra footage to go along with it, you do get more film which is nice with the director's cut version.
  12. I prefer the director's cut of Legend with Ridley Scott's preferred director's cut version which restores 25 minutes of footage to the film and restores composer Jerry Goldsmith's original soundtrack for the film (Scott's intended soundtrack for the film), rather than the studio-replaced Tangerine Dream soundtrack. Which version did you watch?
  13. Exactly. The AI upscaling here is a more advanced form of DNR (or digital noise reduction) that would be used for film transfers in the past. Now, this can be easily misapplied (anyone remember the first pressings of the Gladiator bluray?) but so long as the film 4K colorist/transfer person applies it correctly, then the AI upscaler should be no problem. That aspect is what will always be up for debate (how much is getting rid of film dirt, etc. and how much is getting natural blemishes and natural film grain?). James Cameron said the reason these 4K's took so long is that he wanted to be there himself and approve of the transfers before making them and he'd been busy with Avatar for so long, hence the drawn out process. So it could still have been misapplied but if the creator himself thinks it looks good, that's something to take into account.
  14. Both releases have AI upscaling used, but this is all Cameron approved and apparently it's moderately implemented. Apparently one suffers a little more than the other but HighDefDigest gave both 4K's 4/5 stars for video so I think it's probably being made to be a bigger deal than it is, but I haven't kept close track. Both certainly look better than any previous release imaginable either way. https://ultrahd.highdefdigest.com/124729/theabyssce4kuhd.html https://ultrahd.highdefdigest.com/124733/trueliescollectorsedition4kultrahdbluray.html
  15. Writer Kevin Williamson is also back, also directing this time. I don't follow the Scream franchise but the writer of Scream 1, 2 and 4, as well as I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Faculty is back. After everything that's gone down, I have no idea if this will work out or not.
  16. Here's a quick breakdown here: Grandia on Saturn vs PS1 - insert credit FORUMS.INSERTCREDIT.COM The insert credit forums are a place to talk about video games for anyone who has thought, "but really, who will care about this specific thing I like?" But basically the Saturn version had a better framerate and better graphics/resolution, though the PS1 version had some better aspects compared to the Saturn version as well. And yeah, the PS2 version of Grandia II was noticeably rougher than the Dreamcast version.
  17. I was behind but have finally caught up and watched episodes 3 and 4. This is an excellent adaptation of the book. Not perfect but as good as one could have hoped for. They are absolutely nailing the Marika-Blackthorne relationship and the authenticity with the brutality of that final cannon scene: goddamn. Everyone really needs to be watching this show.
  18. To make it clear to others checking out this thread, this is the already released Grandia HD collection that you can find on PC/Steam from 2019, it's just now they are finally porting it to PS/Xbox. This is the definitive release of Grandia I (combining the best parts of both the Saturn and PS1 versions) and Grandia II (based on the original and best Dreamcast version, not the PS2 or PC ports). It's a shame Grandia III and Grandia Xtreme never got remasters to be added to this collection, at least those got international releases originally so it wouldn't be too hard. Luckily, there's always emulation with mods.
  19. I'm definitely going to play this game, but after Astlibra Revision and FF7: Rebirth I'll probably go play a couple of other kinds of games and then circle back to this.
  20. The weekend recap: Aftersun (2022; dir. Charlotte Wells): 7.5/10 Anyone But You (2023; dir. Will Gluck): 6/10 Cold Mountain (2003; dir. Anthony Minghella): 8/10 Glass (2019; dir. M. Night Shyamalan): 6.5/10 Horrible Bosses - Extended Cut (2011; dir. Seth Gordon): 7/10
  21. That has nothing to do with the current layoffs wrecking the industry that you mentioned, and being pro-emulation has little to do with it. Not sure how the courts disagree when this case was settled, not decided.
