General Gaming Snap judging pixel art indies
crispy4000 replied to crispy4000's topic in The Spawn Point
Time Spent: 15 minutes Rating: ** Metroid 1 with better controls, but also slightly unresponsive. Bosses are bland, enemies are bland, graphics are bland, etc. Like Elliot Quest, it didn't need to exist, but its not nearly as offensive to play. There might be a decent game here still if you bare it out. -

General Gaming What are you playing today?

Have it, haven’t tried it -
An older emulator on Mac was sued first. I used it back in the day, it was compatible with the discs and was amazing for the time. Sony ended up buying them, then shut it down. Connectix Virtual Game Station - Wikipedia EN.M.WIKIPEDIA.ORG Emulation has never not been a thing for PlayStation platforms. But it takes longer generally. Same with Xbox platforms. With modern games from both of them getting PC ports, there’s less incentive now.

Yeah it's interesting. It's messy, but I'm still into it.

@Spork3245 @legend The timeframe also seems a little screwy. I thought it was weeks after that Cloud joined up with Barrett and co.

Combat feels worse to me in 30fps mode. It’s enough of an action game that it matters. But I found that dialing the camera sensitivity down a notch makes the judder more tolerable, even if it makes the game feel a bit weightier. Think I’ll stick with it in graphics mode until I can’t take it anymore, or the game gets a proper patch. Also, that’s a pretty surprising start plot-wise. I’m here for it.

They advertised it as an open world game as opposed to linear Midgar. No one should be shocked by performance mode running worse than Remake.

I’ll replay the section I did in the demo at 30fps, see if I can stomach it better. FFXVI’s felt better from what I tried, and it’s jarring coming off 60fps in Intermission. Performance mode wasn’t super offensive to me, maybe because I’ve been playing some Switch games lately.

That's some BS right there. If they can remake Dead Space, this should have done just fine.

I'm literally relaying details from the video. No need to take offense. DF's opinion on graphical matters is second to none. They came to the same conclusion as you, just with more experience and detail to back it up, like resolution counts, comparisons to Remake and such.

Performance mode average is below 1200p, which is considerably lower than Remake at 1512p. The scaling might look better if you set your PS5's output resolution to 1440p. They recommend graphics mode for now, with the caveat that there's no motion blur to smooth camera motion.

General Gaming Snap judging pixel art indies

Time Spent: 15 minutes Rating: *** Action platformer that takes influence from a number of places. You have three air jumps/dashes, and can wavedash like in Smash Bros Melee (love it!). Every form of jumping and dashing is mapped to the same trigger button, so its never too cumbersome. There's also a Viewtiful Joe styled zoom in + slow down mechanic. And lastly, it's a dual-stick shooter where you fire with the right analog. Like Viewtiful Joe, I think the slow down mechanic becomes an excuse to ramp up the difficulty, which I'm not a big fan of. Visuals are a bit to simplistic for my tastes as well, maybe even a step below Grapple Force Rena. -

Time Spent: 15 minutes Rating: ** This game has gotten high praise as an indie darling. It could be that there's some big payoff later I'm just not seeing at this point. Controls feel surprisingly great due to some heft to your cursor (even with the mouse). But I quickly noped out after learning I had placed a bunch of items incorrectly, according to some unexplained rules running behind the scene. I'd rather not waste my time guessing what the creator's OCD patterns are, which is the opposite of cathartic to me. -
Wait for a PC port maybe? PS5 Pro?

General Gaming Snap judging pixel art indies

Time Spent: 45 minutes Rating: *** A Metroidvania with a slightly garish color scheme, justified as you returning color to the world. Gameplay-wise it's very castlevania inspired, all the way to including a backdash. The character outline makes me think they were most inspired by GBA/DS ones. There's a Hollow Knight-like mechanic where you can recharge your magic/shield health by attacking enemies. Difference here is that you can optionally recharge this meter after it depletes completely (leaving you with individual health points left). So you can technically spam shots from the corner of a room at basic enemies. Just don't get hit unaware. Overall, its nothing unique, but is fun of what I played. Progression and map design feels a little hollow. The style points are probably the biggest thing going for it, as is the animation, but I'd still call it an acquired taste visually.
