  1. In my capacity as the Exalted General Secretary of DayOnePatch.com (the #1 site on the internet and you can't prove me otherwise), I'd like to take some time to welcome our new and returning members from ResetERA who've decided to check us out due to recent events over there. So, let's give a warm D1P welcome to: First-Timers: @Anelk @Bill Gaitas @arnehelst @Patatat @FiveSide @SleezyBigSlim @aett @Megatherium @Cheerwine Returners: @Vanillalite @Enterprise1701 For a bit of history, D1P was first known as BadCartridge.com which was formed in December 2010 by a community who broke off from the IGN boards. The site was eventually renamed DayOnePatch and has remained that way ever since. During that time, we had some database..."issues"...that reared their ugly head from time-to-time, most notably during the implosion of NeoGAF that gave birth to ResetERA. We had several NeoGAF refugees come to D1P (like @Enterprise1701) during the interim time between NeoGAF and ResetERA, but most decided to remain with ResetERA due to D1P's technical instability during that period. Of course, because we have incredibly bad luck, we suffered ANOTHER database corruption situation in 2018 which resulted in us effectively having to REBOOT THE ENTIRE SITE BECAUSE EVERYTHING WAS LOST. Fortunately, I managed to salvage the Member roster which enabled me to at least re-create the profiles of the vast majority of active posters. Except for you @Vanillalite - I didn't bother to recreate yours because you hadn't posted in years Thankfully, we completely reconfigured the technical side of the site and we haven't had any significant issues since then. Culturally speaking, this site is a very different environment than ResetERA largely because we're very much an "older" audience so moderation is very light compared to over there. Even though I am the sole owner/operator, I'm not Evilore or Cerium - there is absolutely zero monetization or revenue stream for this site. There are no ads, there are no membership levels, there is nothing of the sort. This is our community that has been together in one form or another for well over a decade and while we will naturally have our disagreements, we're still here So, welcome to the site and have fun!

  2. Speak up, I can't hear you as I walk away! But in any case, I enjoyed the history lesson. I'm in my late 30s, so it's good to know that the average age around here is older, too.

  3. At this point this is literally on par with “Eh I’m not interested in seeing the new Tarantino movie with DiCaprio because he’ll always be Jack from Titanic in my eyes”

  10. I know this game can be pretty tough at times, but how can anyone complain about difficulty in a game with Story Mode difficulty where enemies don't fight back?

  12. As @Stepee said, this game runs absolutely amazing and I appreciate the assurance that it would!!!!! Ended up just buying it outright and I'm just about 5-6 hours in. It's quite a bit deferent than 5 and I loved 5 so starting out I wasn't really liking it that much. That said, I'm really liking it now once it opens up and you get to the first real story cut screen. The chaos that happens in this game at any given moment can lead to some amazing and crazy happenings! I love it. To those on the fence on PC because of hardware I can assure you it's stunning @ 1440p / 120 with everything on Ultra with RAYTRACING ENABLED!! with the HD texture pack too. I never dip below 70fps. The cutscenes are kinda jaring because the seem to be a lower rez and it kinda takes you out of the experience when they happen. So...Steppe you were correct my underappreciated 2080Ti / i7 9700k is more than capable to run this in all it's glory. Now I'm kinda itching to see how Battlefield 2042 will run? I haven't even tried Farcry @4k. Really a great game so far with tons of shit to do, 8.5 / 10 and if your into these type games, a huge thumbs up!

  13. It's just weird to do Flashpoint this early. They were planning on doing this even before they needed an excuse to reboot their abortive Justice League DCCU attempt, right?

  18. Hereditary: 7/10 - I have somewhat mixed reactions to this movie. After watching it, I found it interesting how everyone was praising Ari Aster as some movie genius when this was his debut film. The movie is certainly strange at the beginning. Annie making miniatures of her own life is odd on it's own. But then there's a point of the movie where it escalates quite quickly into weird territory. Some things I thought were fitting to the movie and others just seemed a bit too over the top. It's certainly well shot and well acted. Toni Collette is good and the portrayal of anguish is quite remarkable but some pieces didn't work for me. I didn't think it was particularly terrifying either, just a movie of oddities. I'd also like to watch some things back, the movie commits the sin of having lots of text on screen and you have to be a speed reader to read and comprehend the writing.

  20. Cold Mountain - 7/10 It's a bit plodding at times, and I think it kind of falls apart at the end, but it's still in many ways one of the best Civil War movies ever made, in my opinion. Of course they made the choice to have the characters all be from western North Carolina so they could have all the characters have legitimate reasons for "fighting the rich man's war," which is a dangerous myth that gets perpetuated all the time, but I think the movie tiptoes around the issue as well as it can. It says a lot that damn near all Civil War movies perpetuate the lost cause myth in some way or another, and Cold Mountain threads a needle. The supporting cast all steal the show, as Kidman/Law are basically blank slates.

  23. I do think people in true crime circles take things way too far, but I also think arguing that you shouldn't expose yourself to real things that happen for fear that they might make you more conservative is putting the cart before the horse and follows another obnoxious trend of reducing everything to ideology.

  24. True crime stuff fucking sucks and I fully approve of this topic. Just do yourself a favor and watch Memories of Murder and Zodiac, which are artful, non-exploitative films that have more salient things to say about crime, violence, and law enforcement than thousands of hours of these shitty podcasts and shows could ever hope to.

  28. Finished it last night, Hamish Linklater is so good in this. What stood out to me was how much of the series was just two characters in a room doing a scene study with each other and it almost always worked.

  29. They also announced a second season coming in January but they haven't dropped the trailer yet! And spoilers, but you don't know who this is, Lina will be on the show! BUT Marci was kind of a big deal since she stuck to Mirana's side all the time. I think I speculated that either her or the elf girl would be in the game at some point so they picked Marci first.

  34. Yeah tons of great stuff to play right now, I haven’t even started Psychonauts 2 and that could be a goty fit me for all I know, barely touched Deathloop! I did beat this game though last night. I liked it more as it went on, about half way through is when I really got into it (besides the graphics which are amazing the entire journey), the story kind of takes forever to build and even then mostly just exists in a couple 3 minute cut scenes at the end of certain sections. And it takes too long to get some upgrades that make the gameplay come into its own a bit. But at its worst it’s still a charming ps2 era platformer that happens to be one of the most stunning looking things out there. But it gets pretty creative and juggling enemies with the bow/staff gameplay becomes really solid for this type of game by the time you get the sticky bombs. I love slow motion double jumping with a fully charged arrow to the enemy’s face. At first I laughed at some people saying goty potential in the reviews, but while this would not be my pick, I could at least see it by the end.

  35. Police interrogations are about as far from actual psychology as you can possibly get. I see absolutely zero reason for anyone who is even remotely involved in the psychological profession to waste a minute of their time on it.
