  1. Ttump actually losing the primary would be best case for dems, because you know he'd run 3rd party and siphon millions of votes off of the GoP.

  2. Squid Game: 8/10 - What would happen if you mixed The Hunger Games with Saw (sort of)? Well, you get Squid Game. I think the important part about this show is that it borrows just enough ideas that it feels like an original idea rather than a derivative work. The show is mainly focused on Seong Gi-hun, a kind of down and out dude living with his ailing mother and is in incredible debt and is offered a chance to play a game that could make his debts a thing of the past. So he accepts and soon finds him playing the game with 400 other people, but perhaps the game is a bit more extreme than what they had in mind. One has to question how this show blew up in such a big way. I think most of the appeal comes from the idea of the games themselves and the intensity of the suspense the show provides. I'd also say that most of the characters have some sort of appeal and are developed so well that you can't help see them through this journey. But if you are averse to to graphic violence I would say this is probably not the show for you. Overall I liked it, obviously, but I kind of share the sentiment it kind of lost a bit of steam towards the end. Although I think that is kind of partially from the descent of the adrenaline rush that was the majority of the episodes and well this isn't quite a spoiler but: But with that in mind, I think it's something to be excited about. The writing was strong and it's a Korean show so I can have faith if the show comes back that it shouldn't be too disappointing. [This was my @Greatoneshere approved review. 4. Will be hilarious if MAGA people start saying "why do I have to pay $100,000 for my hospital stay, and zero for an experimental vaccine?!" and then have a weird populist right-wing push for universal healthcare. Obviously it would get shut down by the higher-ups in the GOP.

  8. Nancy Pelosi publicly trashed the Green New Deal when it was first announced, which was basically based around the last IPCC report, which had just come out. I think the number of the sitting politicians who actually believe in climate science as it currently exists--and not a rosier version of it where we can get some F-150 Lightnings on the road and turn on a couple of Carbon Capture machines and fix everything--is depressingly small.

  9. Yeah, that seems pretty reasonable. You just can't really plan for that. There's no way to know if the kid you're sitting next to in the bus is on the football team or the track team. Humans are what's spreading this disease. Maybe this week a church event winds up being a super spreader or maybe it's the bar mitzvah that leads to the next wave. Either way, something about human behavior and changes to their behavior are what slows things down and ramps things right back up. The point still remains. If everyone just masked up and got their damn vaccinations we wouldn't have to deal with explosions filling hospitals.

  19. Antisemitic rhetoric continues to be used by some opponents of COVID-19 measures | CBC News WWW.CBC.CA A Winnipeg restaurateur likened public health orders to Nazi brutality. Now, advocates are calling attention to antisemitism on the fringes of the anti-vaccine mandate movement... No, requiring vaccination before entering a restaurant is not like what happened to the Jews in the Holocaust.

  20. Votes are only a proxy for support though; the majority of registered voters do not view him favorably, and it is unlikely that will ever change. While he might get more voters to the polls, he's never going to convert new ones. Democrats have made good strides against gerrymandering and voter suppression; they will always have to fight it, but if having both Senate seats in Georgia is any indication, they are presently doing a good job. I simply do not see how that happens without the United States dissolving as a political entity, and at that point it doesn't really matter who 'won'.

  22. I'm not sure there is any irony here. But maybe also these people assume these remakes are going to be more than ports. I think it's not going to be anything substantial so the Switch should be able to handle it. At the same time "able to run" seems to be a subjective term. Cysis "runs" on the Switch, but it's not pretty. I think they have a family friendly reputation. After all the Mortal Kombat you note here HAD NO BLOOD. Also, Spatterhouse games only appeared on the Genesis (I know you're referring to the Wii version but that is so much later). It wasn't until recently they kind of opened the flood gates to anything. Heck, even those shady Japanese escort games on the switch now. So yes, now it seems perfectly normal but if you had said this several years ago people would think "too violent" I mean yeah. Until the Switch came along it was pretty much console exclusives or bust.

  27. Good, they have their own faults like they could source better screens (where Replicades have great screens but have inconsistent QC issues at the manufacturer in China. Quarter arcades are actually the easier of the two to purchase (replicades get single low unit production runs). Also quarter arcades are 1/4th scale where replicades are 1/6th scale. For me the 1/6 scale works best ask desk toys.

  29. Meant to respond to this yesterday, but the answer is certainly more complex than simple human behavioral responses to growing case numbers. One of the leading ideas is that Covid runs through what are actually relatively discreet communities in a particular region. The easiest way to conceptualize this is that within a given high school, you have many different social groups and while those groups can have crossovers you can eventually run up against some hard breaks between them. Covid may burn through the football team, but never touch the track team. The next wave may been seeded into the track team, but never touch the marching band. The next wave seeds into the marching band, and so on in wave after wave.

  30. The premise didn’t appeal to me too much for some reason, and didn’t really seem to fit with Far Cry IMO. I gave it a chance, but I didn’t care for it. I just found the story and characters to be dumb, and not in a dumb fun kind of way. Also, taking place in rural America felt a little off to me as well. I’m not a big fan of collecting materials/resources and crafting in games either, but it was so simplified in Far Cry 3 and 4 that I didn’t really find it to be a hinderance. For me watching a game being played and playing it myself can be somewhat different experiences. While gameplay streams and videos can kind of give me an idea of what a game is, they’re still not quite the same as actually playing it myself. There have been times that I didn’t think that I would really like a game based on streams and videos of it, but I ended up liking it when I played it. While Far Cry 4 was a somewhat disappointing follow-up to 3 IMO, it was still good and I liked it. But I also can’t deny that it felt very similar to 3 without being as good. Far Cry 5 felt a bit different from 3 and 4, but I just couldn’t get into its story and characters and rural America wasn’t a very appealing setting IMO. Far Cry 6 looks like the best in the series since 3 with a strong narrative, a likable cast of characters and an appealing setting. The core gameplay does admittedly look kind of the same, but it’s gameplay that I like and if the missions are varied then it should be a fun time. However, I totally get where you’re coming from and can understand why you want to see a bigger change in the formula before jumping back into the series again.

Those numbers are quite small. Heck I can’t go into my daughters daycare without showing my vaccine card. South Jersey is something else. @BasemntDweller2 and @Slug can chime in.

  37. I really really liked this, aside from the literal very end where I thought the monologue was a little too long. Normally I wouldn’t mind but it made me laugh and just took me out of the moment. My only other “complaint” is that the makeup kind of gave away the game right away. The actress that played Bev was so, so good. She absolutely nails the tone of that specific kind of person. I don’t think I’ve seen her in anything else which I found surprising considering how much she just kills this role.

  40. Just a small story to remind everybody of how fragile white people can be There are a couple of independent meteorologists here in Houston that worked together to start a FB page and website called Space City Weather. SCW’s tag line is weather with no hype, because as you can imagine in a city that see tropical cyclones head our way on a fairly regular basis that the local media goes absolutely insane every time a storm looks like it might go into the Gulf of Mexico. Today they announced they are launching a separate Spanish language site to give the same sort of no-hype weather reporting in a language and cultural context that will fit the massive native Spanish community. The first comment in the FB post was a white lady saying she is going to stop following their page because of it. The mere fact that they would offer a separate site in a language this lady doesn’t know was enough. ENOUGH. I don’t understand how people this soft make it to old age
