  6. I spent 5 years inside DC's foreign policy 'blob.' Here's why the experts keep getting us into unwinnable wars like Afghanistan. WWW.BUSINESSINSIDER.COM My time at a leading foreign-policy think tank helped me understand why we keep winding up in disastrous wars — and why Afghanistan won't be the last It's possible to bypass the paywall with a quick finger on the Stop button. I thought this was a fascinating article coming from someone who spent time in the world of the Foreign Policy think tank world. It displays the way money and people flow from government to think tanks to the military industrial complex, and back again. And it's all in service of perpetuating the profit of these defense corporations through slick neoliberal policy proposals of fighting foreign imperialist wars for the purposes of "spreading democracy" or "advancing human rights." Long story short, there's going to be another Afghanistan.

  10. I use my XSX far more than my PS5. If you cared about Sony exclusives you’d have played them already. Quick resume and smart delivery are things that are just nice to have, once you have them it’s hard to not have them anymore. Plus you’ll get cross play on many games with your PC. The PS5 will have some different exclusives that will eventually come to PC and charge you twice for them. XSX will share exclusives it’s the pc but will only charge you once for them, or not at all if you get games pass. I think the XSS is the more convenient console with better features. PS5 has its high quality exclusives and that’s about it. It’s also butt ass ugly. I do like the dual sense controller and I know it’s not a big deal but it’s battery life is still shit.

  13. There was a reddit thread the other day about a family conflict over institutionalizing a disabled 15 year old. Not one, including a bunch of nurses who commented, mentioned Home and Community Based Services even being an option. The simple concept of taking the money that would go to a nursing home and applying it to care in the family's home was foreign to them. It was really disturbing to see 27k upvotes supporting the institutionalization of a 15 year old based on the phrase "severely disabled who requires 24/7 care", that's literally me. Also the notion that nursing home staff are "professionals". It was really eye opening for me to see the ignorance and down right ableism on full display. But as @Iculussaid, this is America,

  14. I have been summoned. The county I live in is the headquarters for like 10 of the biggest pyramid schemes. DoTerra, Younique, NuSkin, USANA, Young Living off the top of my head. My cousin, a male mid 30s army vet, got sucked into selling LLR somehow and all my female cousins followed him. Now some of them are doing some fingernail scheme. Sigh. Can't wait to watch this documentary.

  17. My wife fell for this shit all the time. She didnt get into selling it seriously at least. But she would go crazy buying a product thinking it's great, and then someone mentions she should sell it and I always talked her out of it. We've had plenty of LuLaRoe leggings in our house, Thirty-one bags, and essential oils. She's much better now.

  18. I'm definitely going to check this out. I have several friends that sell essential oils and now whatever that 'pink drink' nonsense is. I hate MLMs with a passion, so this should reveal a few more reasons why.

  19. I'm shocked there aren't more tech MLMs. I remember a bunch of folks getting caught up in Excel Communications back in the late 80s/early 90s. I'm glad nobody I know for wrapped up in LuLaRoe. I do know a bunch that got caught up in Herbalife. Though, these days whenever I think of Herbalife all I can remember is their side story in Los Espookys.

  20. The Matrix & Saving Private Ryan are two of the top regrets in films I failed to see in a theater. That being said about Matrix specifically, I was working at a local video rental shop & I snagged a copy to take home, ended up rewatching that film about a half dozen times over the next couple days, I just could not get enough of it!

  21. I think seeing the first one is still probably the most memorable experience seeing a movie in a theater for me. Blew my damn mind at age 14, and the ad campaigns and trailers for it did a good job of not giving stuff away, and it was in an era where you weren't gonna get spoiled for a movie by going on line and seeing either a bunch of social media posts about it or a bunch of clickbaity think-pieces.

  25. Yeah, my friend who did it with benzos said he wishes he did it without them. He went cold turkey from like drinking 5 shots of whiskey before work in the morning, though, and said it was the worst 3 days of his life. He had hallucinations and everything. He probably needed all the help he could get. He's gonna be one of the ones helping me through it. Thankfully I have a pretty good network of friends that are willing to take turns babysitting me I'm not sure how much your baseline operating BAC has to do with how severe your withdrawal is, or how fast it goes 0-60. That's something I'd be curious to ask a doctor about

  26. I completely forgot to post those GBA games I bought several months ago... so here they are! They were all loose cartridges (some with manuals), so I put them into DS cartridge cases and printed some cover art. It isn't perfect but I like it. I play them on these bad boys... although the white one stopped working. It used to work on and off, but for some reason I can't get it working anymore. I'll probably fix it when I get a soldering iron... and learn how to solder. Only downside is that since I didn't do any soldering, I have to use headphones / speakers for audio. Not the end of the world, but a minor inconvenience. I almost forgot I also picked this up. I haven't gotten around to playing it yet, but the discs and the case were in surprisingly good condition. I half expected the discs to be more scratched than they appeared in the pictures (It's pretty easy to hide scratches with the right lighting), but they're both in great shape!

  27. Yes, benzos are addictive. Gabapentin isn't a benzo, though. We get a lot of patients in with alcohol withdrawl. They go on a gabapentin protocol and taper down. Ativan is used more PRN. I don't always have to give it. Basically, you should speak with a doctor.

  30. I don't know why people think "RPG" has to be synonymous with "plays like dogshit and is actively unfun," because that simply isn't the case. Divinity Original Sin is an RPG. Tales of Arise is an RPG. They both play amazingly well. KOTOR is a dysfunctional, clunky, ugly mess that I bet 99% of people without nostalgia (either for KOTOR specifically or games that play VERY similarly from the same era) have to fight to enjoy to any degree. A game can be an RPG and fun. It's possible! Bioware specifically was total dogshit at dealing with combat until Mass Effect Andromeda, which is also when they forgot how to do the rest of the video game properly, so I guess for them it really is an either/or.

  33. I gotta say, that's a good trailer... I've always been pretty luke-warm on the Matrix movies, but I'll watch this. I like the first one, and recognize how important it is, but also feel like it was way way over-rated back in the day. I think I had some hipster aversion to how popular it was. Really hated both sequels. I'd be down if they just kinda flushed 2 and 3 down the toilet and made this a sequel to the first one...
