  1. Olympic Organizers Fire Lead Choreographer Bashar Al-Assad After Use Of Chemical Weapons Comes To Light WWW.THEONION.COM TOKYO—With hours to go before the start of an Olympics already fraught with controversy, organizers of the Tokyo Games announced Thursday they had fired their lead choreographer for the opening ceremonies, Bashar al-Assad, after learning about the Syrian president’s past use of chemical weapons. “It’s has recently…

  2. OL coach is apparently at worst 150-200k a year in salary these days. Giving that up because you don’t want the vaccine is just incredible to me

  7. Nathan bedford forrest was a great field commander. He was also a white supremacist and the first (and technically only) grand wizard of the KKK. Even if he may have taken back his beliefs towards his death (take that however you will), the job was already done. He accomplished his mission of making sure black people were as close to being slaves as possible. Like imagine if Hitler, on his deathbed, was like "you know, Jews actually aren't that bad after all." Cool, glad you had a change of heart, I'm sure that's a lot of comfort to the millions of dead. Nathan bedford forrest was a traitor, a fascist (before it was cool), and a racist. Being good at commanding troops in battle shouldn't cancel out all that other shit.

  8. I was hoping for UCF. Some people think they can't hang in the SEC, and I'm like... they beat Auburn, and if you're telling they can't, minimum, hang with Vanderbilt or Volunteers or Ole Miss, then I simply don't believe you. Just seems weird that the biggest state in the southeast has one team representing it.

  9. There are two reductions in severe illness. One is a relative metric for infected people in the subgroups of vaccinated vs unvaccinated, the second is the overall reduction due to less total infections. The first is the actual headline goal of vaccines, reduction is the worst outcome due to severe disease. If Covid were just the common cold, nobody would be worried and life wouldn’t have come to a grinding halt.

  10. I just blew up the bathroom, like sweaty forehead and phone out reading Returnal psychoanalysis levels of power-shitting, and right when I opened the door, my female coworker was exactly in front of the bathroom door walking by. I made it so much worse by actually saying "oh hey what's up!" so she had to turn her head towards me and therefore her nose towards the charnel house.

  13. I finished the first two episodes. I can already imagine the neckbeards foaming at the mouth as the second episode doesn't feature He-Man at all. I kinda wish Teela and her "friend" randomly broke out into a full on makeout session just so the man-children's pacemakers short out.

  14. The combat in DS2 literally added everything that I remember thinking "oh that'd be cool if..." while playing DS1. The fact you could constantly pick something up to hurl at enemies and impale them etc. was cool as hell. I wonder how crazy the dismemberment system and gore will be in this one, yum.

  15. I can't imagine how intimidating this game will be with current-gen graphics and 3D audio. The original is still incredibly tense and claustrophobic, I replayed it not that long ago. And my initial reaction was different but thinking about it while typing, I welcome this especially if it mixes in elements from other games and so on. DS1 and DS2 (never played DS3 for long so no opinion) are great games but the level, mission and encounter design in both is pretty damn weak in my opinion. DS1 recycles the same 'walk into room, oh no, both vents in front AND behind you pop open now' and the mission structure of 'go fetch this machine part' a million times, it really diminishes its flow pretty quickly to me. DS2 is slightly better in that aspect but it's also packed with very dated feeling gotcha moments of being dumped into locked arenas with few positioning and movement options. Again, I think they both rule but level/encounter design is definitely somewhat weak in both and I really hope that's where some of their efforts go considering they name-dropped RE2 Remake and that had fantastic level design. I assume they mainly dropped that name though because it's a well-selling, well-regarded remake and people like me go "OH lord, so cool yes Ilike that product now I buy this product". Then again, EA fucking sucks absolute shit so that alone might negate anything hopeful I just said.

  20. Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain - 8/10 First I want to make @sblfilms proud and say I went to a THEATER and watched this in a Theater! (In fact my first time since 2017) As for this one, I enjoyed it. The movie feels like a celebration of his life while still feeling a bit like his show in a way. Actually feels more like a behind the scenes of the show, with a focus on Bourdain himself and really outlines the ups and down of his life, of his psyche, etc. It's unfortunate what happened to him but I do feel like this is a worthy tribute even if the opening lines of the movie were what he actually wanted to have happen to him.

  29. OL coach at Ohio State makes 700k. I'd have to imagine he's making at least a comparable salary to that as the pay gap between top tier CFB and low tier NFL coaches isn't that great, but certainly not 500k lower than an amateur league coach at the same position. But yeah to your point he's fucking insane for giving up that kind of money because he refuses to get vaccinated.

  38. The thing that grinds my gears is that people hold assholes like him up as beacons of freedom. Irony aside, the south also suspended habeas corpus, which Lincoln is crucified for. They had a draft. The fact that the confederacy, in any circumstance, gets held up as "free" compared to the united States is something that will always and forever boil my piss. Sherman didn't burn enough.

  39. If you have a big problem with whatever you think CRT is... there is a 99% chance you are a vile racist piece of human garbage. You defiantly are not interesting in having an honest open debate about anything. You are likely a close-minded simpleton piece of shit with such a narrow view of the world that your opinions carry so little merit that you should just shut your fucking garbage hole in your face and go slither off to whatever dark pit of humanity your brain lives in. Every propagandist at Fox News who helped decide that this is the hot-button topic they want to push right now to rile up their racist audience of shithead garbage people is fucking trash. The entire argument is built on such a garbage bad faith base that it just, I don't even know. I don't understand how anyone can be so incapable of critical thinking that they can so easily fall for this stuff. These people are beyond hope. Fuck these people. Ask me how I really feel... I mean, yes, I like to speak hyperbolically online about stuff like this because I find it cathartic... but it seriously hurts me deep down inside to know I share this planet with people this close-minded, this ignorant and confused and this filled with hate. It's really fucking depressing.

  41. Bill Maher has the blue print on how to fix this. 1. say it was a joke 2. invite every black person you’ve ever had a non-negative interaction with do a 30 minute show where they take turns telling the camera how not racist you are. 3. sit there and look like you shouldn’t even have to apologize. 4. get visibly annoyed with Ice Cube because he still called you out. 5. forget it ever happened.
