  2. This may not be a popular choice, but...Guilty Gear Strive is absolutely stunning. Also...check out some of those faux retro games on that new display. It’s not as “impressive” but games like Shovel Knight and Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon look awesome on modern monitors. If you’re into pixel art in any way, that is.

  6. RDR2 maxed out graphical settings running at 60fps is a sight to behold. For me that's the most impressive in terms of realistic graphics (as opposed to good art design, like Ori or Ratchet and Clank).

  11. I'd just take the money and stick it in a HYSA and then pay it back at taxes next year. Service Credit Union for instance has one account that's 5% on up to $500 and another that's 3% on up to $3k. Or use it to cover floating large deposits to hit bank bonuses. Plus you said you expect to make less this year, may as well just take the money and see if you even need to pay it back after the year's up.

  13. 6 and a half weeks of being at home and only having to think about work stuff for maybe…5 days total. I can’t wait- unless circumstances change, seeing my family for the first time in 19 months, going camping, going to the beach to paddle board, gym every day and I might even try and polish off a few games from my backlog and catch up on one or two newer releases. Plus loads of time to spend with my dog, daughter and wife. it’s also going to be the first time in…4 years where a holiday means time off, rather than studying or working a second job. Just sharing some feel good feelings.

  22. Don't have a next/current gen console yet, but from what I've seen Demons Souls and Rift in Time have more graphics than just about everything else at the moment, as expected. I played RDR2 for the first time in years and was floored by how Rockstar managed to pull off an open world game with those visuals on last gen hardware. Same with Remedy's Control, though I doubt the animations in cutscenes will hold up too well. Ghosts of Tsushima's visuals are nice with how alive the world feels and how much motion everything on screen has at all times. The Last of Us 2's attention to detail, the quality of the animation and everything else make it stand out. Rez Infinite...it might not be the best example given the minimalism of its art style, but I genuinely believe it's visuals might never feel antiquated in our lifetimes. The infinite levels are downright spellbinding when covering an entire wall via HD projector. Kena might be a contender for one of the most emotive 3D art styles out there, showing how close the industry is to genuinely achieving interactive Pixar movies.

  30. If people aren't gonna wear regular masks they certainly not gonna wear n95s. I wore n95s for most of the pandemic and only after being fully vaxed switched to regular masks. Its a fucking joke that people bitched about regular masks.

  32. I mean, in the US there are 330 million people and most likely only around 20% of the population caught Covid before the vaccines became available, so it's not particularly shocking. The Yankees players also were all vaccinated with the J&J single dose vaccine which looks to be significantly less effective at preventing infection than the mRNA vaccines are with the more transmissible variants like Delta which is now the dominant strain going around in the US. But the key info coming out of the Yankees outbreak is the majority of infected players had no symptoms at all and the others very mild. That is vaccines at work, even less robust ones like the J&J.

  33. BOTW just immediately throwing you into the world and telling you to have fun has spoiled me. All this fucking “oh no, Link your Loftwing is missing and you have to find it, ask around to find it” is so damn tedious and fucking boring. The controls aren’t too bad so far.

  34. If you have a Defector sub, their review of Space Jam 2 is inspired: 'Space Jam: A New Legacy' Is A Hell Known Only To The Undead | Defector DEFECTOR.COM It used to be that shitty movies won by getting you to buy the ticket, and would just accept the critical pounding to follow. That was the trade, and it was a fair one: We got to call garbage garbage, and from time to time we would admit to ourselves that sometimes this or that hunk of garbage was our particular flavor of garbage. A sample:

  35. I mean the appeal of the Looney Tunes has always been wide. It’s never been exclusively for kids. It’s okay as an adult to criticize both Space Jam movies, as long as proper perspective is kept. I’m an aspiring writer who writes stories with a younger audience in mind. Does that mean whatever I write gets a free pass for being mindless and cynical just because it’s “for children”? Fuck no! Kids are very impressionable. If anything the standards for entertainment aimed towards a younger audience should be higher, not lower.

  37. Sideways: 7/10 - This is a film that garnered a lot of acclaim, even Oscar nods, so I had a passing interest in seeing it. I recognize it was a well made movie. Heck Paul Giamatti looks young as hell! But overall you're just watching a couple of shitty middle aged guys drinking wine. One guy just wants to get laid while the other is on the verge of a mental breakdown. Weird that Thomas Haden Church was nominated for an Oscar but not Giamatti. 🤔 - That being said it's just okay for me, like I said well made, good performances but who and what it's about isn't super appealing.
