  1. You can lead a horse to water, etc. My girlfriend tried to get her mom to consider getting her news from PBS and was thoroughly rebuffed. A lot of those people don’t want the truth, they want to appease their feelings.

  2. Late stage capitalism mixed with climate change will eventually cause the downfall of our society anyway. I remember talking to my mom about how capitalism ultimately fails when society hits a point at which there aren't that many things we need people to do anymore. She, a stout conservative, was always like "new job fields will open up." Most people think like that. But eventually 90% of transit and service jobs will be gone. There's even development in having primary care doctors replaced with AI. Then the whole system collapses because it turns out Jeff Bezos can't keep making

  5. I honestly don't think any of us on this board is suffering from "normalcy bias" in the least or have any expectation that things will "revert to how they used to be" (nor should they because that is precisely how we got to this place to begin with). In fact, it's quite the opposite: this board is fully cognizant that the American system is fundamentally, irreversibly, and irreparably broken in all aspects: politically, economically, socially, and morally. We are way past the point of no return and this Pyrrhic victory represents merely an interregnum on the downward slope of conti

  7. The thing I find frustrating is that it shouldn't be the case that someone as early in their political career as AOC would be a better speaker. Experienced politicians ought to be actually good at the job. But the standards in congress are so mind numbingly low that here we are. If they actually gave half as much a damn as AOC did we'd be so much better off.

  11. Well another update: The chest pain and headache (right behind my eyes) got progressively worse throughout yesterday, and in the early evening I called my doctors office and spoke with a nurse for about 20 minutes. She was incredibly thorough and understanding, and said based on my symptoms, it's likely a post COVID infection of some type and I should come in to urgent care and get evaluated by a doctor. I went to urgent care last night and did I drive through appointment (they are being cautious with previously infected COVID patients) and the doctor confirmed it's a p

  12. I disagree. If you do a proper vetting of someone you don't need a coarse heuristics like "none from school x" or its inverse "only from schools x,y,z." And if you're not doing a proper vetting you're already fucked in your selection.

  13. No he doesn't, almost all of Trump's lackeys are from Ivy league schools, and did nothing for American greatness, or reduce our dependence on China (or the global market in general). As for America's decline, thats solely on the shoulders of an absolutely dysfunctional congress largely made up spineless dickfucks like Rubio.

  17. I freely admit that I am feeling some real schadenfreude over this. Trump's administration and his supporters are truly awful people--wretches who did everything within their power to harm others. His administration has stood for white supremacy, corruption, and a run-away train to fascism. And his supporters have been with him every step of the way. I hope they are feeling miserable today. I hope they are crying into their MAGA hankies. I hope they feel one teeny ounce of the pain that they have spread throughout the world.

  22. Yea sorry guys, I thought it was the Remake too, my bad. Plz forgive me. I was a bit to excited there. My point being, the last year or so Gamepass has blown me away and has completely changed my game buying routine. That and our circumstances of course. I now look at games that I managed to not just buy day one, and feel good at thinking it'll more than likely be out soon on GP. That is what I meant, sorry guys....

Something to consider as well, iirc, hospitalizations are roughly 2-3 weeks behind positive cases, with deaths ~10-14 days post hospitalization. 27. Biden was a "stop the bleeding so we don't die right now" candidate. Without a future election constraining him and a senate that will let him get away with anything I shutter to think the kind of damage Trump could have done. The next election is when its time to start really addressing the problems of the future. In the meantime we have to hope everything holds together.

  28. The Bicameral system only functions with cooperation and "norms" as it is an inherently unstable form of government. I don't see either returning anytime soon. Our only hope is that no one inspires the same kind of fanatical following in the future. I suspect if Trump 2.0 comes along it will be a conservative talk show host like Dan Patrick of Texas.

In my opinion I do not see how this works for Microsoft, I mean yea 15$ (gamepass ultimate here) a month for 12 months isnt nothing, but everytime I go look at the new games there is a new game I would normally just have bought. Having a gaming pc too ultimate rocks too! Now this hasn't been normal times for me in over 2 1/2 years. Not just Covid19 have you, but the loss of our home, my son, job, Etc, etc has really made me watch my wallet like I cant remember. So along comes Gamepass. I
