  3. Cuz the Xbox One doesn't do ray tracing, 120 fps, Dolby Vision games, upgraded visuals, have an SSD for faster loading and the capability to suspend 4 games at the same time. I'm sure there are other improvements.

  5. The ray tracing is hardware accelerated same as it's on the Series X. The GPU difference will not affect that. Let's say it doesn't do ray tracing the other things I mentioned are worth upgrading from the One especially at the $299 price point.

  6. Surprise right ? Who have thought a company spending god only knows how much to build a console would do its home work. As usual we on this board are out of touch to the general gaming community.

Tease apart refers to disentangling. In this context, I'm saying level design is an entangled concept with gameplay. That is, I would absolutely classify level design as part of gameplay. If seems you don't want to. Which as I said, is fine, I just don't know why you want to separate those concepts.

  8. I think the notion is pretty obvious, the S is the budget friendly option and physical media for consoles is the more budget friendly solution due to game sharing and used sales.

  9. If it were actual artists I would still be against it, but I could feel a little sympathy for people forced to give up part of their craft for an entire year or more of their life. But karaoke is like the audio equivolent of fan fiction. "I must put everyone's health at risk so I can perform a sub-par version of Two Tickets to Paradise!" With that amount of selfishness and lack of self awareness I am surprised it's not a news story from America.

  13. My suspicion is the vast majority of benefits from fast SSDs will be of the level-design variety.

  14. Because it doesn’t fit his gut feelings that Ratchet didn’t prove enough. I think it’s more about expectations. For some people, these quick transitions are justification that the SSD can change game design. For others, it’s not enough to provide a ‘this is next-gen (gameplay)’ moment we’re supposed to want out of it. So it gets debated. But I don’t think there’s much of an argument that it isn’t groundbreaking, as has been claimed. I’m even struggling to remember any cartridge-based 3D games, where loading is minimal, that do world swaps to a similar effect.

  16. You're probably right it'll do minimal ray tracing, but it's literally cheaper than an Xbox One X and just barely more expensive than a Xbox One S. Why in the hell would anyone just get an Xbox One.

  17. Bro the S is not going to do ray tracing. It’s going to be a pretty small upgrade. Idc what people on here say. I’ll eat my shoe if it actually does that. We’re barely going to get ray tracing on the non-fun sized consoles.

  20. The developers would not have architected the level design to have numerous world switches if they couldn't do it quickly. If new tech changes the level design games can provide that seems like a pretty fair definition of "gameplay" changing. If you disagree with that, I guess that's fine, but I'm not sure why you care to tease it apart that way.

  24. It has arrived. The case has a couple of dings on it but overall it is in really good shape. I also have added a few other games (Mario Party 7 with the mic coming to mind), not as many as a normal month. I am just far to exhausted as I had a concussion in early July and have had a hell of a time recovering, so I haven't been able to get out as much as I like with most thing being 150 mile round trip drives to get to.

  25. No. I already praised it as the best looking and most impressive “next-gen” game in the PS5 reveal thread, and I think possibly in the first or second page of this thread. EDIT: definitely in the PS5 reveal thread

  28. But the point of that sequence wasn't to highlight some special kind of player agency. It was to show how rapidly they could dump you from one unique environment and gameplay scenario into the next. Maybe you see it as a glorified cut-scene in practice, but the current gen consoles couldn't even do that without resorting to a FMV with all the shifts packed into that last minute. You don't see these sorts of wholescale environmental swaps in quick succession, not without lengthy cutscenes and transitions to mask loading. Ratchet's wormholes come much closer to brute forcing it. As for th

  30. Absolutely Games like Tomb Raider at 1440p hover in that 60-90 range with a 2080ti while FC5 maintain well over a 100+, either way it seems like a fantastic system and that price is ridiculous.

  31. I'm saying the difference in GPU will mostly affect resolution. MS claims the hardware accelerated ray tracing will be the same for both the Series S and Series X. What hardware accelerated means I'm not sure but I believe that the Series S will be capable of ray tracing in some capacity at 1080p to 1440p resolutions.

  32. TBF, hardware accelerated doesn’t mean there’s not a performance cost, so, the GPU difference will most likely affect RT performance. I'm not sure if that’s what you were implying, though.

  36. I agree, this doesn't absolve Trump, he should have been as forthcoming with the public as he was with Woodward (and would probably be cruising to reelection in the process!) And it may have saved thousands of lives! Woodward should have released this back then and it might have saved thousands of lives! But instead he saved it so he could sell books! Fuck him.
