  3. They also need to agree to put a moratorium on rent and mortgages. Telling people not to work for a month and also make rent is stupid. However, I've only seen this done on evictions in the States, which doesn't really help. That just puts everyone behind on rent/mortgage a few months which could still lead to evictions when the moratorium is lifted. Not everyone is making enough money they can afford to pay their rent twice or three times over once they get back to work.

  9. I actually started the rollover process for my 401k to my current employer the day before this all started. Just got the check in the mail today. It says it's good for up to 180 days. I think I'll wait a few more days to deposit it with my new employer's service provider.

  17. I was supposed to go back to Germany to defend my master's thesis in about a month, so it looks like that's all on hold now. On the plus side for me, my university extended all of the submission deadlines by a month because the university is shut down. I'm so glad that I moved back to the US from Germany back in November. At the time I was mostly just wanting to be closer to family, friends, and my girlfriend, having finally grown tired of living in Germany... but now, I'm even more grateful I took the leap... facing this pandemic is a lot less scary when closer to friends and fam

  18. I have been distracted with stuff in my personal life, so until the NBA cancelled it's season I would say I was about 95% oblivious to the fact that this whole thing was any different than the scares we seem to have every few years.

  23. lmao, no 17 percent is hospitalizations per confirmed case. That's NOT the percentage anyone is paying attention to. If you don't know where a twitter thread is being sourced from/run by, you should not pay attention to it.

  28. What we've learned from this situation is that the (western) world's people haven't had to make sacrifices for the greater good for too long, and don't understand the importance. IMO, bring back the old punishments from WWI and WWII for people who hoarded goods, etc, only in this case for breaking gathering limits, etc.

  29. Unrelated, but remember in The Dark Knight Rises where the stock exchange was taken over by terrorists and the trades went through anyway like, “what are you gonna do, Bane had Bruce Wayne’s fingerprints.” God that movie is fucking dumb.

  33. Probably for the best. Things could get bad financially for people and their health, so I'm fine with anything being delayed. This could be as close as we get to the apocalypse scenario we all joke about, where our huge backlogs keep us busy for plenty of time.
