  11. I think i'm about 15ish hours into the game so far. I'm lvl 20. This game feels like Assassin's Creed Odyssey + Yakuza style relationship systems + better combat. Things im liking so far: Gear system: I've seen some reviewers complain about the overwhelming amount of loot. I find this loot system to be very similar to AssCreed Odyssey, in that you are gonna get a TON of stuff, and then if you are someone that gets some joy out of min maxing stat upgrades on loot there is a TON to play with here. Taking down forts/bases: If you're someone that enjoyed taking down all the forts in AssCreed maps, this is going to feel similar. Relationship systems: There are a TON of characters to meet in this game, and with some of them you can increase your "bond" with them by giving them gifts and talking with them. Some of these characters can assist you as an ally on some missions, and depending on how high your bond with them is will directly impact how strong they are in that mission. This has actually been a lot of fun for me. Colleting things: at the end of the day, like most open world games, this is a collectathon. There are cats to pet, chests to find, fugitives to hunt down, photos to take, etc. And the game does a good job incentivizing you to do it, by giving you clear progress bars of how much you've done in a given area, and by giving you bonuses for completing everything in a given area. The combat: I'm a baby when it comes to parry-based combat games. I'm not good at them. By the time I got to the first boss fight in this game, I instantly needed to turn the game to easy mode. Now, after having played a bit, and understanding the different combat styles of the different weapons, I'm feeling far more confident at the timings of things. And it is extremely satisfying to go up to a group, parry them, get the crit hit, and walk away feeling like a bad ass. (i'll note that i'm still BAD at parrying, but getting better). Things im disliking: The AI is good in combat, but otherwise pretty dumb. They don't seem to react much to dead NPCs, they have pretty limited cones of vision. Taking down bases silently (which is something I loved to do in AssCreed games) feels a little too easy/dull in this game. I've opted to just go in full aggro mode now to most bases. The Glider: the glider is AWESOME. It feels good, controls well, and you can pop in and out of it super easily. But it doesn't feel like the world was really designed with the glider in mind. I almost NEVER use it, unless I happen to be on top of a hill and need to go downhill. But it being used as a way to save time traveling is pointless because of my next point. Fast Traveling: this game provides such a stupid amount of fast travel points. In most zones you are going to find 2 or 3 fast travel points, which is more than enough for how large the zones are. But in cities they give you a fast travel point like EVERY OTHER BLOCK! It's actually just annoying to find the icon I need on the map between all the fast travel icons. ITS FAR TOO MUCH! Other thoughts: Graphics: yeah, the graphics are not up to PS5 standards and it's weird that a PS5 exclusive doesn't look better. That said, do I think it looks bad? No. The world design just looks like its from an older gen console game. But some things, like the character models, armor, and weapons, do look pretty good. Co-op: You can play online co-op with 2 other real players, but only during missions (the same missions where you can bring along allies. So these players would replace the allies). I haven't tried it yet, but it feels... pointless? Those missions are usually pretty short. You are just clearing a base usually. Factions: This game has two factions, and makes you feel like you need to pick a side right away. But the vibe I get is you can work with both sides and it likely does not matter until you need to make a larger choice at some point later on. I'm sure I am forgetting some things. But that's it for now.

  13. After re-avulsing my Achilles in September while beginning weight bearing, I started to ween out of the walking boot in early January (already a little longer than I clinically needed to out of precaution). After a few days I saw bruising and a lot of swelling...I sent pictures to the doctor, saw my physical therapist, and he determined it was a midfoot sprain; unexpected but not totally crazy given how long I was in the boot. I went back into the boot for another week or so, then began the weaning from the beginning (an hour a day at a time)...As I weaned I continued to see residual swelling, which my PT said would be expected, and that as long as I didn't see any more bruising I should be good to proceed. That brings the timeline into focus two weeks ago, when I worked my way up to being completely free of the boot - residual swelling, but I hadn't seen more bruising in that time, so I wasn't concerned. Today my ortho took an x-ray and determined I had developed Charcot foot - a rare condition for people with neuropathy (primarily due to diabetes, though not in my case) and that four of my metatarsal bones were broken. So...Back into the boot for two months! I am allowed to walk on it at least, but it is certainly not fun to be that your foot is essentially collapsing in on itself.

  18. Maybe I’m a bit harsh, but honestly, politics are an important conversation. They affect our everyday lives. More people should be politically active because the dumbest of the dumb who are mind rotted by the Fox News Cinematic Universe vote in EVERY election. I’ve explained my history here, so it triggers me when I see phrases like “Trump was a great president”. He wasn’t. He was one of the worst. And it was a result of political apathy and the “both sides are the same” mindset that led to him becoming President.

  21. I think it's interesting how this conversation has shifted over the years. Not very long ago it wouldn't have even been considered remotely plausible that it would financially benefit Nintendo to release games on the PC, and I don't think the actual merits have changed much. There's just the straight up opportunity costs. It's quite plausible to me that Nintendo wouldn't sell that many more games if they released on the PC and it's equally plausible that some of those sales would come at the cost of selling consoles. We can look at examples from Sony and Microsoft, but they're imperfect comparisons at best. There aren't any Nintendo games that look to me like they could be another Helldivers 2. The games that might sell best on the PC are probably the Zelda games, the exact games that they're relying on to sell their consoles. Also, it's more important to Nintendo than to MS or Sony that you buy their hardware, because they actually make money on it. I also think there is a lot of brand control and images issues at play. Nintendo has always been very protective of its brand (which I think is demonstrated in this lawsuit), and I imagine they contribute much of their success and longevity to that protection. I also think there's a simplicity to it that they value and want to hold on to. Want to play a Nintendo game? Buy a Nintendo. Besides all this, I think that if Nintendo were to release games on another platform, the PC probably wouldn't be it. They'd probably put games out on mobile first. I know they've actually done some of that, but they haven't really been hits. (I don't count Pokemon Go, because it wasn't a Nintendo game in any way that matters).

If you have the displeasure of crossing paths with Derrick and choose to hire him, be sure to treat him like the piece of dirt he is. Don't bother giving him a parting gift, as I will throw it away and scold him. Feel free to order him to fight the troll alone. Laugh as he gets trampled by the Gryphon. If he calls for backup, just tell him to shut up. Just shut up, Derrick. I don't care about your damn blueberries. If anyone is willing to trade for Derrick, I'll gladly take literally anything for him. Fuck you, Derrick.

  25. The current mother of games may well die a thousand deaths over time, but something will always cast its gaze upon that void and seek to fill it. IF cost is the current knife that cuts the game boy's umbilical and in that action's wake, a sea of graves does rises, then all those bodies and soil will seed another crop to take its place in the fullness of time! Am I doing this right? am I swerving between incomprehensible and purple prose?

  26. Got into Austin a little late as my wife decided last minute to join me for the weekend shows, but grabbed my badge and ran over to the Paramount just in time to slip into my first screening: Road House Director Doug Liman Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Conor McGregor This movie is definitely a throw back piece, but not one that is just nostalgia porn. It is hokey in the right way if you’re willing to roll with it. Biggest problem the film has is that Jake and Conor are the only memorable parts of the cast, which is fine when they are on screen, but the flick loses steam when they aren’t. I was fully expecting quality of performance that Gyllenhaal put out, I think he is tremendous, but I was surprised at how well McGegror worked in this role. I guess to some degree he has been a performer his whole career, but doing it in a narrative film is a different beast. Could be just a perfect match of man and material, but I can imagine him getting more calls for similar roles in the future. I give it a slight recommend Afterward I went to the Film/TV opening night party to talk shop with some filmmakers about the distribution platform and get some feedback. Overall a great opening day even with the delayed start!
