I just wish there were more diverse planets to explore. It's my main gripe.

I mean, most of the planets themselves are pretty damn diverse. Forest, swamps, Deserts, mountains, temples, etc etc. the game is huge and theres a ton to explore. The saloon planet itself has everything.

I’m at Jedah now and it’s crashing now as I’ve seen others say. I’ll probably just wait for them to fix it, can’t imagine it’ll be much longer and I got other stuff I’m bouncing around. Game is fantastic so far besides the crashes though.

Turn off RT for Jedah and it’s fine

As said above, turn off RT and you’ll be fine. Having turned it off immediately after testing the game might just be why  I had no crashes.

I wonder what the recipe for crashing on Jedha. Maybe 4K + raytracing is too much for that area?

anyways I just noticed in the menu it looks to have my overall story progress. Which claims I’m at 73%. Which feels about right based how everything is unfolding. I do feel like I’m starting the final act. Curious to see where this goes.

The menu background is also a dark and brooding shades black and red. Makes me think the game is telling me Cal’s mental state right now and his wavering balance in the force.

Someone on the Steam Forums said the RT crashing on Jedha was due to a coding error causing an infinite loop.

I still wonder if there is more going on. I’ve had Ray tracing on every time I went to Jeddah and it never crashed on me. Koboh on the other hand has crashes multiple times around the saloon area. So much so I’m terrified of losing progress and save immediately when I get there and multiple times while talking to people, shopping, opening secrets, etc.

Still not too far in, but it's very solid so far. Combat feels much better this time around, and I'm enjoying the traversal more too. My biggest gripe so far is that nearly everything you find is for cosmetics, and I just don't care. Yeah, it's silly to find a new beard in a box, but the boxes themselves are an oddity in the first place, so it's not so much the strangeness of the reward, but that it doesn't feel like a reward to me at all. It's actively detrimental to my enjoyment though, because I feel almost no incentive to explore the worlds or find hidden treasures. I'm still doing some of it, at least the big ones, just in case there is a skill point or something good, but every time I find a new pair of pants or hair style my will to play lessens.

Still, the game is good and I did not expect where the story was heading. It's a clever way to tie it into where Disney is taking Star Wars, and I'm actually rather eager to see more.

I'll probably try turning RT off. I'm often sitting at a happy 70fps, but more often it's probably closer to 50 and then I still get crazy dips to the teens for a few moments.

Holy shit did the game take off 19 hours in! This game is so good!

Spoilers:

Spoiler

Bode betraying everyone as an Imperial spy (and a former jedi) and killing Cordova in the process was shocking. Controlling Cere and fighting Darth Vader was cool as hell and sad seeing Cere die.

I'm now 20 hours in and I'm on another different planet (you were right @Biggieand I'm still on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next.

An extremely solid 9/10 right now and some of the scenery and visuals in these "ending" sections are simply breathtaking and "next-gen".

noooo I don’t want any rays here to be untraced, it’s a pretty common crash so I’m hoping a patch will fix it in the next couple days

Absolutely wait for the game to perform great for you so you not only can take advantage of your system but play this masterpiece at its best.

not that shocking really. I never trusted him for some reason. See a comment several pages back. The only real surprise to me was him being a former Jedi. But I was definitely expecting some kind of turn from him. Just a vibe even on Coruscant. Maybe it felt like they/he was trying too hard to make

…and I saw the credits roll last night. I agree with @Kal-El814, the game is absolutely back loaded. It feels like a roller coaster sprint to the end. It feels exactly what you would want from a Star Wars ending in terms of pacing.

To me Koboh’s openness is a disservice to this game. It hurts the flow. Sure you can just not explore and run straight towards the next story objective location, but the game isn’t really laid out to encourage that. It feels to pad out the game and nerf the pacing. Every other location did it better. I did like having a larger NPC social hub that felt like it grew as the story progressed. I think I would rather each area connected to Koboh be in far further corners of the planet and we take a quick Mantis ride to an LZ the first time, and then we can fast travel after that if we want. Then make the area around Pyloons much smaller, since the biggest reason for it being so big and open feels more like just having places to hide collectibles. Then maybe have collectibles be things you find near force echos, from legendary enemy kills, from killing bounty hunters, for also completing force tears.

kind of spoilery

I think what helped the first game was not only were we chasing after something, but we were also being chased. The Second sister felt relentless. That is absent this game. All game we are on somebody’s heals. There felt to be a bit less tension this go around for most of the game.

Slightly more spoilery

the game lacked clear motivation for Dagan. He was obsessed with Tanalorr without, what I can tell, much reason to be. Maybe if it was force nexus and acted like a drug to him or any other Jedi that went. Something we didn’t fully discover until going there ourselves. But then Cal couldn’t stay. Or maybe if Dagan had already become a “dark Jedi” and others like him had sought refuge from the Order there. Then maybe he’d hope that there would be his kin, an army of Jedi that could rise up to topple the Empire and claim the Galaxy for themselves.  But that wasn’t the case and so nothing about the place seemed worth killing over. Maybe now that it could be a refuge from the empire. But from the little we saw there didn’t look to be any fauna and we don’t know if the flora is edible. So having to make trips in and out for supplies, it’s only a matter of time until somebody finds out. It was underwhelmed with it as a “promise land” or as a reason Dagan would have turned on his fellow Jedi.

Very spoilery

I also half expected that once Dagan bled his crystal it would have sent a ripple through the dark side of the Force that the Emperor would feel. Something he and Vader would see the need to address before it became it threatened their position as Sith Lords. This didn’t happen, but it was in my mind all the way until Dagan died by our hand. Which the game did a good job making Dagan seem very powerful, until we killed him, and then he felt not powerful. During the final fight he seemed to be reaching levels of power with the Force not seen during the age of the Clone Wars.

but speaking of Vader, that fight with Cere was quite good. I liked that the secret to the fight was going in. Showing no fear and being aggressive. But then that was ultimately Her downfall as Vader used it against her. Which is not out of character for Vader.

I like that stuff on Jedha had a good pace to it. Some good traversal and combat gameplay followed by a big scene. Especially the fight with that big drill alongside Merrin, but then also the siege.

The end didn’t feel like it stuck the landing. Node’s betrayal and downfall feels like the kind of thing that comes before the final conflict, not as the final conflict. Especially since they keep trying to humanize him. Both before the fight and afterwards. Maybe the point is we don’t feel good about killing him. I never really liked him, didn’t trust him, so I don’t want to like him now just because we put him down like a rabid dog in front of his daughter.

the message for the game felt weird for Star Wars too. Everyone but Cere gave into the anger and the darkside and got significantly stronger. Dagan, Bode, and it’s how Cal survived the ISB base and defeated Bode. Post game Cal’s super is still the darkside rage mode. Maybe the next game will be about reaching balance and become a Master like Cere. …and then dying to Darth Vader. Tearing my way out of the ISB base after Bode was pretty fun though.

I was also let down by the Rayvis fight. He was actually one of the easier fights IMO.

Overall I liked the game. I have some more I want to finish on this playthrough and then I want to see what they did with New Game+. Maybe I’ll wait on NG+ for when the game has had a few more performance and quality patches.

I think the first game was better paced and had a story I felt more investment in all the way through. Cal’s upgraded force powers and Jedi mobility fit better too in the first game as he was reconnecting with the Force after years, and relearning lessons from memories he had repressed.

Survivor did have a strong opening level. I like that it made you feel Cal hadn’t regressed from the end of Fallen Order. He’d matured. I do wish you could swap between all stances and not just two at a time. I might have used more if I could switch to all on the fly. One thing the game does very well is making you feel like an unstoppable force just by going through the skill trees. Traversal feel goods, especially after some upgrades and some of the puzzles have been fun. I do think overall the moment to moment gameplay is an improvement over the first game. While the first game did settings, pacing, and story better.

Beat it. An extremely solid 9/10. With only one crash in my 25 hours played I was very pleased with performance and was lucky nothing stupid happened through my playthrough. Imo, it’s the best Star Wars game ever made behind the legendary KOTOR. Cal is a fantastic protagonist who you root for and he is NEVER annoying.

The gameplay was a complete joy from traversing to battle. Playing on medium difficulty and actually beating it is an achievement for me. 😆

Overall, it will be up for some GOTY awards. It won't beat Zelda probably and then we have Starfield. This year so far has been incredible.

Finished the game yesterday. Comparing to Fallen Order, the narrative and level design were better in the first, IMHO. I'd rate the combat in Survivor better, but mostly because of the added variety in stances.

Overall I'd rate the first one better, though both are really good. Survivor feels a little bloated and less creative (especially at the end where it's often just room after room/wave after wave of enemies. I also felt the boss fights in the first one were better... Survivor falls into the very untrue trope of opponents getting better/stronger the more the player kicks their butt.

I'm also not a big fan of the "red" unblockable attacks. Having played a ton of souls games, the way this worked reminded me a lot of DS2 where the enemies would often "lock on" and hit me regardless of dodging. I don't remember that happening at all in the first game.

The combat in Survivor gets so much better once you unlock

air dodge, lift, and slam

. You then feel more like an unstoppable badass. Since the only thing an enemy glowing red is immune to is blocking and parrying.

For anyone that beat the game: During

the funeral pyre scene, was I alone in first thinking the game just bugged out when Merrin started walking and moving weird? I mean I get it was really a time elapse. But at first I thought for sure it was a stupid animation/clipping bug. Lol

Also the rendition of the Force theme on

tanalorr

is quite nice too. The audio is an unsung hero in these games. I don’t think they’ve ever sounded out of place. Score and sound effects.

Check out the latest updates to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

patch notes in case anyone is curious.

I was also interested by the still known issues they’re working on

Quote

Additionally, here are a few known issues we’re currently investigating and working on for future patches.

(PC only) Improving performance on newer i7 and i9 CPUs that have efficiency cores.

(PC only) General performance improvements to improve both CPU and GPU utilization while reducing idle time, both with and without raytracing.

(PC only) Improving some hitching which can be attributed to streaming raytracing data, assets, and a gap in our prebuilt shaders.

when these these get patched I should see a real boost in performance. So this will be when I do a NG+ play through.

there’s already some significant improvements though. The Mantis leaving the atmosphere of a planet and about to go to hyperspace would drop the FPS to single digits. Now it hovers around 90fps. FPS around the Koboh town has improved too. Went to Corusant and I’m keep 80-100+ fps with no noticeable skipping with a lot less screen tearing. I think the game is loading locations faster too. As soon as the animation for hyperspace happens I’m ready to sit down to land.

so far this feels like the minimum of how the game should have released.
