Director Katsuhiro Harada dives deep into the game’s first trailer, showcasing footage rendered in real-time and captured from the game running on PS5.

Quote

This trailer was actually taken directly from a certain part in the current work-in-progress Tekken 8’s story mode, played on PlayStation 5. In other words, all the character models, backgrounds, and effects are the same ones that are used in-game. Although this was captured from the story mode, it is not a pre-rendered movie made for the trailer but rather real-time rendered footage, running at 60 frames per second, similar to how you would experience the game in versus battle modes. (Of course, some of the effects, dialogue as well as the camera angle is currently being updated and may change when the game launches)

Why only compare Soul Calibur to Tekken? Might as well throw in Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Dead or Alive, and Virtua Fighter for 3D fighting game series. :p

I think it has to do with how often we get installments of those other series Vs SC, minus VF of course. But specifically because Namco makes both so I wish they had made a new Calibur entry rather than another Tekken.

It is interesting to see how long a new fighting game in a fighting game series takes to come out these days (probably a good thing) when before we'd be flooded with them. Technically it's been longer since Tekken got a new game compared to Soulcalbur so I'm sure Bandai Namco will move on to Soulcalibur 7 once Tekken 8 releases.

Tekken 8: 2024 release date, will have been 7 years since Tekken 7 (2017)

Soulcalibur 7: no release date currently, it's been 4.5 years since Soulcalbur 6 (2018)

Virtua Fighter 6: no release date currently, it's been 15 years since Virtua Fighter 5 (2007), though we did get Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown (2021) which counts

Dead or Alive 7: no release date currently, it's been 4 years since Dead or Alive 6 (2019)

Mortal Kombat 12: 2023 release date, it's been 4 years since Mortal Kombat 11 (2019)

Street Fighter 6: 2023 release date, it's been 7 years since Street Fighter 5 (2016)

You can see the different series space their release out from one another as well, it seems.

Technically Tekken 7 came out in 2015 so it's been even longer since a new Tekken than it has SC :nerd:

I'm obviously not counting arcade releases since hardly anyone played it that way. Tekken 7's real release, like all games these days, is on PC and console, not arcades. :p

It should count because that tells you how old it was. So old it was in ARCADES! :p
