The tradition became decennial, increasing in size and prestige as the decades passed. The Sight and Sound poll is now a major bellwether of critical opinion on cinema and this year’s edition (its eighth) is the largest ever, with 1,639 participating critics, programmers, curators, archivists and academics each... Lists like this tell me that I'm not a "true" cinephile, and I'm totally fine with that!
CayceG
Black Girl, M, and The Mirror are on my list now based on this. I've seen nearly half of the others.
thewhyteboar
I definitely haven't seen enough of these. I've enjoyed going through the different directors lists. I think it might be fun to go through Martin Scorsese's and see what I've missed.
Moa
/dist/server/d0a2b6c3717b8abe91b09f9139db5840.jpg Directors’ 100 Greatest Films of All Time | BFI WWW.BFI.ORG.UK Every decade since 1992, Sight and Sound has complemented its celebrated critics’ poll by formally sounding out the world’s leading directors on the ten films they believe to be the greatest of all time. Though it has always been global and inclusive in scope, the poll has expanded significantly each decade. In 1992, 101 directors voted; fast-forward to 2012, when 358 filmmakers took part. This year, for the fourth edition of... Interesting list. Above is the director's vote list, which I personally prefer. I will admit to not having seen the majority of these movies, but I find the degree of overlap between both lists interesting as well as the inclusion of Blue Velvet on both of them. I've always thought of it as one of Lynch's most approachable but also controversial movies, and I'm glad to see it on these lists as its my favorite of his films. Roger Ebert gave it an absolutely fantastic one star review.
Keyser_Soze
Looking like anything past the year 2000 is not every good according to this list.

And that's reasonable because the 2000's has been nothing but remakes/sequels to movies of the past.
TheLeon
What’s funny is that some people who are really into these lists are dubious about the inclusion of any movies from the last 10-15 years. This list supposedly establishes the “canon”, and movies like Moonlight, Get Out, Parasite, and Portrait of a Lady on Fire are simply far too new to be cemented in film history that way.
legend
This is the most pretentious best movie list I've ever read! I can practically smell the wine they're swirling!
