The B-21 Raider is nothing short of a "Military Procurement Miracle" in that it came in on time and under budget:

B-21 Raider Is An Investment in America’s Future: Developing a new military aircraft rarely comes cheap, but all things considered, the Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider will be worth every penny. The long-range, heavy strategic bomber that is set to enter service by the end of the decade was designed to serve as a dual-capable penetrating […]

You call it a miracle, I call it "Northrup Grumman board of directors replacing the CEO for not grifting hard enough."

I'm not gonna lie, I'm super excited to see this. Rumor has it, it's smaller than the B-2, which is already pretty tiny for a bomber.

That said, the B-52 will probably outlast even the B-21 in service life :p

I want to see what a non-stealth heavy bomber in 2022 would look like.

Knowing that they only ever made 21 B-2s, my first question was why the Air Force was asking for 100 of these, but I didn't realize that the 21s are planned to replace the B-2, B-52, and the B-1s.

I don't love spending tons of money on the military, but if you're going to, replacing airplanes designed in the 40s and 50s is probably a good place to do it.

Only question is how long it will actually take them to replace the 52s. They're currently expected to be in service until at least 2042, which would make it an even 90 years from first flight. Think they can make it to 95? 100?

Is there any reason not to make this a drone?

Electronic Warfare can make a drone blind deaf and dumb, it's something that hasn't appeared really in the Ukraine war yet. Plus is a general war your satellites are probably gone anyway.

Edit: lol one should do a fly over of the stadium US v Netherlands  is held in. Or even more America just do it over a NFL game on Sunday.

I'm convinced that someone at NG originally called it the "B-2.1" and out of that it became the "B-21".

I guess if you have a shape that is super effective for stealth you kind of need to keep using it. Laws of physics are the law.

When reading about it, it seems that the main differences between  it and the B-2 other than size are the details. Coating, electronic systems etc.

Any reason why they couldn't have just upgraded the B-2 like they have been doing with the F-15 over the years?

Its a 1/4 of the cost of a B-2 in 1997 dollars so it would probably cost even more to make a new B-2 today, and is replacing like the entirety of our bomber fleet not just the B-2, so they need to be more expendable if not at least more numerous.
