Support for raytracing will retroactively apply all the way back to 1060 6GBs.

Exactly what I have.  720p raytracing here I come, lol.

Nvidia really likes teasing the fuck out of me.

My HTPC has a GTX 1060 3GB... just one step below their artificial requirements.  While I won't ever seriously game with the HTPC, I would have liked to try out the ray tracing, especially if we get more older games implementing it like Quake 2.  Assholes.

And secondly they seemed to artificially limit Freesync support to 1000 series and beyond. I have a 980 Ti, and have been looking at upgrading my display but I would have to pay the G sync tax to experience VRR.

It may have to do with the fact that the 980 Ti and below have 1.2 (or lower) DP outs, but I don't know if that would be a limiting factor for Freesync vs GSync. (GSync is hardware based in the monitor itself, while Freesync is software based and, theoretically, could require more bandwidth - but I have no idea)

But, yea, it's nVidia being nVidia most likely. :p

In related news, Shadow of the Tomb Raider added dlss and rtx today. @Mr.Vic20

Screenshots I saw earlier really don’t do it justice, I think it’s actuallt kind of impressive overall. Not on the level of Metro’s GI, but I think it’s more impressive than BF’s reflections, though in general SOTR is an amazing looking game on pc so any improvement just makes it all the more beautiful.

It completely kills the frame rate. You have to max it to get the full effect and even with dlss you aren’t getting 60 with any reasonable settings. I got 45 on the bench maxed WITH dlss. The good news is the dlss is really good, looks very sharp still. I’ll probably cap it to 30 and play the dlc some day this summer.

I have heard that before too.  Just googled to refresh my memory, and adaptive sync apparently needs 1.2a.  Even though both 1.2 and 1.2a have the same bandwidth, I guess "a" added the adaptive refresh protocol.  It's such a crock AMD supported 1.2a since the HD 7970 and Nvidia did not on the 980 series - a whole two generations later.

Oddly enough, nVidia added HDMI 2.0 (and thus HDR) on the 9xx series where AMD was still using HDMI 1.4

I didn’t even know there was a 1.2 and 1.2a for DP, but after googling a bit it sounds like 1.2a’s difference is vital to Freesync operation, which explains why Freesync won’t work on anything below a 1xxx series.

It looks so damn good! But yeah, even with a generous overclock this is not hitting 60FPS. That's fine though as I now know that with care and attention this doesn't have to be the case. Also, we should be on to newer cards by Christmas (gulp, I hope?) that should provide the boost needed to get us the rest of the way with RTX. I'm just happy to see that Nixxies came through on their claim of RTX support. Clearly their focus was on the DLC first.
