Is this just the Disney+ UHD HDR version on a projector? @sblfilms should just plug a streaming device into one of his theater’s projectors and we could all road trip there for the entire trilogy in 4k HDR on a big screen :p

The 4K blu-rays are out so I'd expect that over streaming.

This has to be the D+/4k Blu-ray versions, so it'll probably include the Lucas edits.

We won't get it soon, as the recent 4k releases of the movies contain all of the Lucas edits, but I really hope Disney releases the theatrical versions of the OT remastered in 4k.  They supposedly have the footage and film to do so, and now have all the rights.  I wonder if they are holding out for respect to George, or maybe they're just timing their re-releases to maximize profits.  Because, damn, I re-buy Star Wars all the time.  I bought the DVD box set when it first came out.  Then I bought the DVD's again when they added a disc that contained the Laserdisc version of the film.  Then I bought the Blu-ray box set.  Recently I bought the 4k digital versions of the OT to get that sweet Dolby Vision. And when they come out with the theatrical, 4k remastered version I will buy the shit out of that.

They’re obviously not streaming it; I asked if it was the same version. :p

The 4k Blu Ray and Digital versions are the same, with the lone difference being Dolby Vision as an option for digital while the discs are HDR10.  But these 4k (digital+BR) versions are a new master of the films from an actual 4k scan of the negatives; it's not just an upscale of the previous Blu-ray release.

I understand that the UHD BD and the streams are the same, that wasn’t what I was asking. Where are you getting the information that this theater version is different?

EDIT: let me clarify since a simple comment is getting a ridiculous amount of extrapolation - is the 4k version of ESB that’s going to be aired in UK Theaters the same 4k version that’s on D+ and UHD BDs or is it a different release?

Jeezes, guys :p

I don't have any information on this current theatrical release, I'll edit my post for clarification.  I'm speculating that it has to be the same as what they released for home viewers, because the 4k Digital+BR releases are new masters of the films and not just a simple upscale of the previous BR release.  Source: https://thedigitalbits.com/item/star-wars-a-new-hope-uhd

And, that’s what I was assuming

it’s a 4K DCP from the same master as the D+ versions

So... do you need us to chip in and get you a decent 4k streaming stick? ;)

I’ll take the 250mbps DCP over the stream :p

Without saying what they are, Disney will be offering 3 films per week for four weeks in July, and for very generous terms. There are some good ones on the list :)

the uhd release and the streaming release see the same it’s just that one is on a disc and the other one streams it over your internet provider, you need internet to do the latter but not the former if you don’t have internet then you can try calling your telephone provider and seeing if they offer it

I love the idea of more re-releases of old movies. One thing I miss about living in a major city was all of my favorite movies that I was able to see on a big screen for the first time. Some movies, such as 2001, are completely different experiences in a theater.

There are still a list of movies I’d love to see in theaters before I die. Wizard of Oz and Empire Strikes Back are among them.
