Xbox One controller VS Xbox 360 controller

I have heard some people say that the Xbox One controller looks terrible or that they think the triggers and bumpers are too close together. So here we will break down what has been shown and said about the new Xbox One controller.

The 360 controller has been regarded as one of, if not, the best gamepads ever made. So how is Microsoft gonna make something that is great even better? Lets start off with the infamous...

The D-Pad

Looks like they finally solved the most widely known problem about it. They did away with a circle D-Pad and just made it a cross hair style D-Pad. The in between areas from left to down and down to right are gone. And it looks like it's slightly more concave than the previous D-Pad which could mean it's easier on the thumbs. Definitely an improvement over the 360 controller.

The Battery.

Not that it was ever a problem to me but there were a small minority of people that just hated the battery pack sticking out of the controller. Some said it got in the way of their large hands. Others just thought it looked out of place. Well the new Xbox One has the batteries stored in compartment recessed within the controller. So no longer would the battery pack protrude your fingers and finally give them more space and surface to freely go about their day. I like that they still decided to go with batteries over built in battery. I still have a but load of rechargeable batteries from this gen and really liked just swapping them out and continue gaming rather than looking for my play and charge kit cable.

The Guide Button

As you can see the guide button has been relocated further atop of the controller. How many times were you in a death match game and wanting to glance at the latest scores and accidentally hit the guide button? Happened more often than not but those few seconds where the guide menu took over your TV real estate left you vulnerable just enough for you to get assassinated from behind. Well I for one welcome this improvement on the new Xbox One controller. So yeah

The Triggers

This has seem sparked up a small controversy within our small community. Saying that the bumpers and triggers are too close together and will inevitably lead to the frustration of core gamers. Of course we can't really tell from pictures and videos exactly how they will feel as the proof is in the pudding as they say and until we get our hands on one of these bad boys we won't know for sure. But I don't think they will be much of a problem. They also have including to rumble motors in the triggers themselves. This has lead to testers to say that the rumble works much better when felt in the fingers rather than in the grips as your fingers are much more sensitive than the palm of your hands

The Sticks

The 360 joysticks were already the best out there. Well they have improved on them by making them slightly smaller thus needing 25 per cent less force than before to twiddle them around. Not like it was much of a work out before but it's nice that they think of those gamers who refuse to hit the weight room :P They have changed the texture on the sticks so you won't skip a beat with all that grip. They have also gone to great lengths to eliminate the deadzone from them as well so your precision is that much more deadly online. Overall I can't wait to try them and see just how far they have come along.

For me it looks like the old S-Type controller and the 360 controller got together to make some sweet sweet love and out popped the new Xbox One controller.

:fap:

Definitely an evolution of how far we have come as console gamers. There is said to be over 40 individual improvements over the 360 controller so it's good to know that they were hard at work trying to make what is considered to be the best controller out there even greater. What do you guys think of their latest creation?

I'm fine with it.

Now when can I get it for the PC?

I hate the way it looks. I'm sure it won't perform worse (though I was a fan of the original Duke, so eh) but it just looks so...ugly. Can't really think of a way to describe it, just not aesthetically pleasing.

It'll be awesome if it works on PC. I still think the dpad is far from being fixed. The Vita is the only modern controller to have really nailed it.

A tad early to pass judgement on that.

I've used great dpads that look like that before. As long as it clicks and doesn't mush it should be pretty darn good except for maybe fighters and really if you care about that stuff for fighters what are you looking at using the stock stick for anyway?

My biggest complaint is how it looks. I don't like the sharp edges, I mean the last controller i can think of that had non-rounded edges was the original NES.

You can already tell it wont have the best range of motion for the diagonal directions. It's not a bad design though!

@The def star great thread

agreed. great thread. I've been so busy yesterday and today that I haven't had time to comb through the info released for Xbox One and this thread definitely helped point out the differences with the new controller.

I think you are grasping at something to complain about.

Thanks guys! I just want to keep the boards alive with info and content since it's that time that only comes once every 5-8 years. I'm excited for the upcoming consoles. E3 is around the corner. Great time to get into all this next gen hype!

I don't mind the edges as it's only on the inside but the rest of the controller is round like the 360 one but with a sturdier feel. It also kind of matches the metro UI and console look.

I'm excited to try it out, looks nice to me. I also have lots of rechargeable AAs, so I'm happy they kept that the same. The thumb sticks looks great to me. I bought 2 of those matt silver controllers, with the updated Dpad and slightly different thumb sticks. I don't think the new trigger buttons will be a problem, but only "hands on" testing will tell, I guess.

Just notice that the edginess on the bottom controller is kind of like it was on the Duke. So the Xbox One gamepad is just taking bits and pieces from it's gamepad forefathers.

I love the look! I honestly woulda been happy if they just gave us the 360 controlled again. Best pad ever. But this just looks so much better. Flat back, better dpad, better analog, buttons look flatter. And as far has the triggers go, it looks like there rounded up at the back. That could make it easier for the two people who dont have the brain campacity to adjust to like a cm difference in placement

Wii U Gamepad and Pro Controller have a great d-pad. Vita's is awesome as well. 3DS XL's is much better than it was on the OG 3DS.

The Xbox One controller is sexy and I'm glad they improved the god awful d-pad from the 360 controller.

Any intel on the headphone jack Jose? The quick glance I saw of it looked like the iPhone 5 input.

My guess it will need a new type of headset.

20130514-XBOX-ONE-003-660x440.jpg

It's a high speed port for "additional" add on's. Don't think the new controller will connect to The One using bluetooth. MS stated "The Wireless Controller will connect to the console using high speed data transfer to enable higher fidelity headset audio and future controller add-on experiences that are not possible with Xbox 360 wireless technology." So it could be that the bottom port will also be for a fancy new headset with better sound quality than traditional headsets. Hope it's bundled in the box. I will still go the wireless route for the head set once they announce accessories for it.

They already confirmed our 360 headsets wont work. It would be stupid to not have a crappy wired headset bundled with the console. Theyre pushing online and xbox live, so give us means to try it out.

Actually you know what? I bet the kinect and skype will be used to talk to friends out loud.

As others have said, I really hope the Dogbox One controller will work on the PC.

The Xbox One will support Blue Tooth, so wouldn't the latest wireless headset work? If not in Xbox mode, in Blue Tooth mode.
