Well, just played QuakeLive. Now that's a hard game.

In my first game, I just died over and over on a level in space (you could fall off) and I came a solid 12th. Next level, managed 12 frags (35 deaths lol) and came 7th. How the fuck are people so good at this game? So fast and precise and chaotic.

Is there any free to play (non demanding) FPS games that are available in browser? (I'm about 10% into getting Team Fortress 2 but it's just taking forever).

So once again you're left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Tribes Ascend is good and F2P, but I'm not sure how good your PC is.

They have 13 years or so of practice at the game.

Its also quite a bit slower than quake 3.

Just tried Can You Run It and sadly I can't run Tribes. I'll just stick with my 360 for now.

Tribes Ascend is a fantastic game, but I would say that the skill gap can easily be like 80-90% of what Quake III is.  Tribes has the benefit if playing as a Technician where you can just sit on defense and protect your turrets, or something like the Juggernaut where you can fire off mortars and probably get a couple lucky kills.  But if you go head-to-head against someone in a dual, that skill gap is just as brutal as Quake III in most cases.

I used to be OK at Unreal Tournament when I was about 10. Not top of the list, but I used to do alright. This was just something else lol.

I tried Alien Arena but didn't like it. The engine is based on Quake source code but with some modern graphical features. I barely played it and didn't try it online but it's free.

Playing it again today, TDM and FFA are kind of addictive even if there's always one guy that 40 kills and 10 deaths and me with 2 kills and 12 deaths after...2 minutes.

Still though it's fun.
