Greatoneshere
The book Dune is fantastic. David Lynch's Dune is a terrible fucking film. The SyFy TV miniseries is solid but very dated. I cannot wait for this movie - Dune is one of my favorite properties. Dave Bautista could make a potentially great Rabban. And he already worked with Denis Villeneueve on Blade Runner 2049. Greatoneshere
20 minutes ago, Keyser_Soze said: This is the worst thing you've ever posted! But it's so bad. Not only is it a terrible adaptation of the book, it hasn't aged well at all and the entire movie is just a series of expository scenes (akin to many big budget rushed films, see: Jupiter Ascending, Warcraft) since they are trying to cram an almost 500-page dense novel into one 2-hour film. The film doesn't make you cry or feel much of anything. The movie is just there. There's a reason David Lynch has disowned the movie. It's because it's terrible. Dune is so good that even Lynch's film has fans because the source material is just that good but as a film Lynch's Dune is barely watchable. The different characters narrating feelings and thoughts while scenes are playing is probably one of the worst ways to convey information visually ever and that's only second to how stupid Lynch interpreted the Weirding Way combat style with voice box technology. It's a shame because all the pieces were there to make a good movie.
TwinIon
I expected him to be Gurney Halleck (the protagonist's weapons teacher), but Beast Raban makes sense. Villeneuve made great use of Bautista in Blade Runner, so I continue to be hopeful that he'll be the one to get Dune right on screen. Bloodporne
I really liked his admittedly small role in Blade Runner 2049 actually so that's cool. Don't know his wrestling persona etc. And as a huge David Lynch fan even I agree that his Dune sucks. The whole thing reeks of an artist completely out of his element to the point of being nearly painful to watch. Still shocking to consider he actually recovered from that career-wise. number305
The book is great. Actually the first 2 or 3 in the series of books are really good. But... they have proven hard to film. I think for this to be successful they need to take a hatchet to the source material. Don't try to do everything in the book. Parse it way down and make something that is enjoyable to watch in a 2 hour sitting. This will piss a bunch of people off but I think it will give a better chance at a quality final product. And to be clear, otherwise I think Lynch is a fantastic filmmaker. I loved Twin Peaks season 3, for instance, as a recent example. 10 minutes ago, number305 said: The book is great. Denis Villeneueve has already said this will be a 2-part film, so they can do everything in the book. My worry is they are only filming the first part and haven't confirmed the second will be made (it's already been written however). It is similar to the situation It: Chapter One was in when it released, but that's a lot more commercial than Denis Villeneueve's Dune will likely be. That's the current word on the street anyway. ALIEN-gunner
Dune is a bad adaption of an overrated book and David Lynch was a poor choice to direct but it's not a bad sci-fi movie on it's own even if much of it makes little sense. The cast is great, the special effects, costumes and set designs are weird and cool which later went on to inspire other productions. The TV mini series is closer to the book and was really boring. The special effects were dated on the date they were made.

I basically like everything Lynch has done minus Dune and Inland Empire, I'm a huge fan. Have read his book, watched his documentaries etc. and I still think Dune is an epic failure, something he himself has talked about frequently. I'm actively dreading the day he shuffles off into the great beyond, there just isn't anyone even remotely anywhere near close to his style. 2-part film, Villeneuve, not-superhero Sci-Fi epic...I'm already betting on part 2 never being made ala Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Sounds fucking awesome to me but alas, people have no interest in that right now.

Dumbass is what came to my mind. Not sure how that's bullying or where the hatred is? I agree you've never "attacked" me, and I'm not trying to "attack" you here. ALIEN-gunner
There's nothing outlandish stating Dune is overrated. it's just as common as saying it's great. People have been saying it for years. It's just an opinion. If you don't agree with that opinion then say so and move on. No need to get personal. Peace be with you.
