Import Gaming. Are you importing games?

I find myself importing games more now than any other generation. Now I will say I also go back and import old Sega Saturn games and PC Engine games. I'm for this topic talking about imporitng Switch and PS4 games. there are sometimes where other regions get a physical release where in the states we get digital only. Also there are some games that just don't make it over here short of importing an asia version with english.

I'm glad my current consoles are just region free. Tehre are Shooter collections on the Switch that I want and some shooters on the PS4 I want to pickup. Then there are some games that retailers get an exclusive like play-asia.

Are any of you guys importing games this gen?

We have a ton of retro imports, but not much recent. A handful of DS imports and the only 3DS import we have is Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D. Most of our imports are on older stuff, like Famicom, SFC, Saturn, and PS1. We have a few across Genesis, PC Engine/CD, GBA, Dreamcast, a couple on PS2, one on PSP, one on Game Gear. I think that covers it. And of course, we have imported systems, like the Famicom Disk System, MSX, and Sharp X68000, with a selection of games on each.

I haven't really seen any current gen stuff I'd care to import.

I imported a couple screen protectors for my Nintendo DS a few years ago via play-asia :p but I don't recall ever having imported a game.

Just to put this out there, and I have no idea if this is at all likely to happen, but.... if any of my fellow D1P-Shits ever found a game that's only available in Europe, if you send me the money I'm happy to pick up and mail you a copy.

I have in the past but I would never get around to playing the games before there was no longer a need. Not much point in playing those International version Final Fantasy games with the Remasters out. My Japanese PS2 basically didn't get used but back in the day hard to find overpriced PS1 games had reasonably priced Japanese versions. I got Symphony of the Night and then I got a PS3 and got the English version on PSN. I imported Rockman ZX only to discover that the Capcom store had both ZX games reasonably priced. The one exception is Mother 3 but even then I didn't play it on GBA beyond testing it out since I used the fan translation. The accessories I imported got some use. I loved the SFC Classic Controller for VC games on Wii but on Wii U I'd rather use a Pro Controller to avoid the tether and I used my GameCube component  games until I got a Wii. I had a Hori Wii controller shaped similar to a GameCube controller that I think I basically just used in one game for the turbo fire in a minigame (I think it was fishing in Breath of Fire 2 and then back to the SFC controller). I also imported some game soundtracks.

I also have a couple of PC games that I didn't import but aren't US versions. I think my Far Cry is the UK version (it was sold in Quebec because it also has French on the disc) and I have the French version of Diablo II on disc which I was able to use to download the English version from Blizzard.

Yeah but it's super easy to just make a European / Japanese PSN / Xbone account and buy it off the store that way. (That's how you get Japanese Playstation and Switch games)

For digital items yeah that's probably the best way to go. I was meaning a retail release, of course. :)

I used to buy imports like crazy in the late PS1 and then PS2 era. I was a train ride from Manhattan and import games were everywhere.

That is really cool. I don't have any PS1 PS2 import games. I don't think I have a way to play them. That is cool there where import game stores in your area. I knew a place in AZ that had imports but I missed out on all that.

@Nokra Thanks for the offer. I will keep that in mind.

I used to buy these "Hong Kong games". I really can't tell you what the details were, I have no idea, but they were basically bootlegs they sold in Chinatown. A guy I knew in school used to buy them in bulk and sell them.

Turns out in hindsight that a few of these were actually shit like 'work prints' essentially. I didn't know that back then so I didn't keep any of them since moving several times. I understood them to be disposable, cheap CD-R copy bootlegs. It's the only way I was able to play a lot of games really, we certainly didn't have money for video games.

I've got tons of imports, even my PS Classic is an import. =P

Yet for modern systems, I've kind of stop importing but I've also cut back a lot on my game buying for PS4/Switch to more focus on my other systems.  With that said, my craziest import this year was a Neo Geo AES and a few games. =/
