Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle

It's nice to see Henry Cavill get some meaty film roles after The Witcher and Superman debacles. It's Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Stardust, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, Kingsman: The Secret Service) so I'm immediately interested. Though it doesn't bode well that his last two films, Kingsman: The Golden Circle and The King's Man, were both pretty mediocre films. Not terrible but most definitely not up to the standard of Vaughn's previous films which was an incredible streak of excellent movies. Hopefully that's just because those films felt kind of forced and were a part of the Kingsman franchise while this isn't.

Interesting that Cavill stars in this and Guy Ritchie's next film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, a director where Matthew Vaughn produced Ritchie's first two films, Snatch and Lock Stock, then Matthew Vaughn and Ritchie split and Vaughn co-writes and directs his own stuff since Layer Cake, though if you look at their films they share a lot of actors between them so I guess they're both together trying to help Cavill out since Cavill isn't lined up for any other films except these two and maybe the Highlander reboot if they can get it off the ground even though it's been some time since The Witcher and Superman stuff (Covid and now the SAG strike obviously contribute).
