WSJ Rumor: Apple ditching Lightning for USBC...

37 posts in this topic

I take it personally because I'm tired of being insulted by people about what products I choose to use. It's been happening for the last 20 years and it's tiresome.

So you know what, when someone calls me stupid for using a certain phone, that person can just go FUCK THEMSELVES. Because, what the fuck is wrong with people? I really don't get it.

There is this stigma that Apple fans are obnoxious, but I'm fairly comfortable in stating that Android/Windows fans in general are way way WAY WAY WAY more obnoxious, insecure, mean, petty and rude as a general rule than Apple fans are. Just look at how people behave on this board as a microcosm. Is the Windows board filled with people making fun of the windows users for being stupid? Are 75% of the people on the Windows board just there to pick fights and belittle people? No, they are not.

Bro seriously chill.  Do you really think I think someone is dumb for the phone they use?  It's all hyperbole and just goofing around.  And the stigma isn't that Apple fans are obnoxious, it's that they're pretentious.  But that's not even applicable here because that's referring to the coffee shop liberal hipster type that buys everything they make on day 1 no matter what.

And for whatever it's worth, none of what I've mentioned was geared toward OSX.  OSX is pretty great which is one of the reasons I get frustrated that they make design and software decisions that make it difficult to get into their products.  I have spent plenty of time complaining about Windows and if I had a choice I would never choose Windows over OSX for development work or even general productivity.  Gaming is the only reason I even own a computer with Windows on it, otherwise all I'd have are Chromebooks and Linux boxes.  OSX is more or less just a skin of BSD so I'm much closer to it than Windows.  I was all geared up to buy the new Macbook until they made that bizarre decision to get rid of hard keys in favor of a screen and to charge more for what I perceive to be less.  And the one offering they kept without the OLED screen they decided to punish by removing touch ID.  So I didn't get one.  So if you really want to boil my entire point down to something it's that I actually respect their products but think they do arbitrary things to preclude many people from liking them.  And blind fans do no favors by simply rationalizing all of the bizarre decisions.  I mean think about it: the new Macbook and iPhone can't even be plugged into one another without an adapter...  And there's no escape key on the new Macbook Pro which means they are totally out of touch with their developer base who in large part use editors like Vi to be productive.

I'm just going to refer back to my original post about not having the energy to get into this tiresome "debate" anymore.

Escape is in the same place, just on the Touch Bar. You can blindly hit it the same as the old escape key, because even if you miss the touch target it actually extends the length of the bar to the left. Was concerned about that myself but after spending some hands-on time with it it wasn't an actual issue.

I'd have to give it a try, but I can't imagine it feeling comfortable for Vi commands.  I'm happy to be wrong though!

Lightning is the best connector I've ever used. Other than it being proprietary, it's perfect in every way a connector needs to be.

The hooks to secure the cable are inside the device instead of on the cable. I know a lighting port is much less likely to fail than a micro USB cable but at least if a USB cable fails I can just replace the cable for cheap, whereas it failing inside the device is an expensive fix.
