Some Spanish environmental propaganda before Captain Planet was a thing based on a children's book series called The Secret Book of Gnomes. Basically a slice of life series about gnome veterinarian. There was an English language version released in the US back in the mid-80s on VHS and maybe aired on Nickelodeon in the mid-late 80s. This show was a trip for young me. Especially the ending where... Spoiler ...he and his wife fucking die. Like, they realize they're too old to keep on living so they just commit gnome euthanasia and turn themselves into trees. All the little forest animals crying and mourning his death was cool. This is one of those obviously not made for American audiences TV series. It wasn't a series cleaning designed for little boys or girls or to sell toys. 1
ort
I remember David the Gnome. Anyone remember Belle and Sebastian? I think they were both on in the early days of Nickelodeon.
skillzdadirecta
Nope... as far as non action 80's cartoons I liked there was always Muppet Babbies Inspector Gadget and who could forget the Carebears? or the Gummi Bears?

None of those are underrated, though. Actually, I'm fairly certain Gummi Bears was just Disney flexing. Wasn't that Disney's first or second animated TV series? The quality of the animation in Gummi Bears is ridiculous for a Saturday morning cartoon compared to most anything else you'd find in the mid-80s.

Disney was definitely showing their asses with Gummi Bears

There wasn't a whole lot I watched on Nickelodeon in it's really days.

Keyser_Soze
Wasn't there some mod at IGN who had a David the Gnome icon? That's what I remember him from.
Emblazon
If they ever reprinted M.A.S.K. toys, I would buy the entire line at once sight unseen. Same with Rainbow Brite. . There’s an out of print Funko Pop that sells for a ridiculous amount.
