  1. When I was in high school, kids absolutely asked teachers if they were gay. I finished high school in 1998 so it was peak time for calling everything gay / thinking that gay stuff was hilarious. Kids know things. See a male teacher with no family pictures on their desk, no wedding ring, no kids, who dressed well and had an effeminate voice? Hindsight bias is a thing but it feels like he got asked if he was gay constantly. So honestly, a student asking a teacher who they're attracted to instead of asking them, "are we going to have any homework a gay, what, I totally said today," seems like a step up. There's a big difference between a student asking a teacher who they're attracted to and allowing a teacher to have an authentic response to that and a teacher telling kids that they suck dick and clit with equal enthusiasm. I'd have a problem with the latter. And let's not kid ourselves... the majority of parents objecting to this aren't doing so because they want to be able to have these conversations with their children in a safe, home environment. They want to be able to pretend that LGBTQ+ people do not exist. I don't have kids but many of my friends do. Local school board meetings have people from out of town come and complain about this topic and critical race theory being taught in schools all the time. It's not an authentic complaint, it's manufactured grievance with the purpose of invalidating the existence and identities of entire swathes of people. Also some of this stuff has little to nothing to do with teachers as it does with kids being in the same space. I learned what anal sex was when I was in fifth grade because a sixth grader I rode the bus with found porn tapes in his house, watched them, and couldn't wait to tell everyone about it. Kids can be imitators, I kissed a friend of mine when I was in first grade because she and I knew grown ups do it. And while 12 is young, some kids absolutely have sexual feelings then. I started having crushes around then, started making out with girls when I was 13 - 14, and was sexually active at 15. It's not just teachers either. When I would hang out with friends their younger siblings would ask me if I kissed girls or had sex. They'd ask if I knew anyone who was gay. Kids can start exploring their sexuality pretty early on and asking people questions is part of the way that they do that. Obviously the standards for answers are different for "my older brother's friend" compared to a teacher, but I do think it's important for teachers of be able to answer those questions in the way that feels the most honest to them, including telling kids that they're not entitled to the answer if they don't want to give it.
  2. More thoughts. Non spoilery stuff first. It's wild to me that they let Sam Raimi go full Sam Raimi here, more so than I feel like he was able to with the previous Spider-Man movies. Some of the weirdest, strangest, scariest, and messy stuff in the MCU happens in this movie and yet I think it really fits into the MCU at large. Other than Loki I feel like the D+ shows and even Eternals / Shang-Chi played it safe. If they let more of whatever phase we're in right now breathe like this, the MCU is going to be fine for a while longer. I'm not going to say that this will be the cure for people who have superhero fatigue, which I'll talk more about in my spoiler tag, but this felt really good to me. Not that it's a surprise, but Elizabeth Olsen steals this movie. She's great in it. Xochitl Gomez does really well also. Spoilery thoughts below: Anyway... so, so, so much fun. EDIT - More Wanda stuff
  3. Clarence Thomas being allowed to remain on the bench after his wife aided a coup attempt is fucking bananas and I hope they fall into an open manhole cover and their progeny never learn how to read.
  4. I've always thought it was "old Ben" because that kinda sounds like Obi-Wan, but what do I know.
  5. Yeah. In case it isn't obvious, I feel like the gulf between "fuck around and find out" and "someone with a deadly weapon comes at you" is pretty wide. And comedy is Dave's job, he should be able to do it safely. If someone wants to protest his shows, absolutely fine, but this is two venues now where prominent black comedians have had people come on stage and mess with them; that's bad. Dave seems high on his own supply when it comes to the trans shit. Comedians get praised for being soothsayers who speak difficult truths to power. And yeah, that can happen; Dave's done it himself from time to time. But he's over skis here, clearly has no idea what the fuck he's talking about, but keeps running his mouth. He comes off as a cringey edgelord who's been told he can't say something so he just doubles down on it for that reason even though he has nothing of substance to say. It's embarrassing to watch.
  6. I feel like I'm missing something here. Netflix bills every month, right? It seems like they should be in a position to be less surprised by this than they seem to be.
  7. This whole arc has been a lot better than I'd expected given that I feel it started off kinda weak. The performances have been really strong, too. Jon and Jordan specifically I think have been killing it in general, and they really come off like brothers in an endearing way. My only gripe is that for a show called Superman and Lois, they could really do a better job of giving Lois something to actually do. I don't want her to get Iris West'd.
  8. Dave does not get a pass for "trying to figure out & come to terms with the whole movement & trans individuals as a whole" when he's getting on stage and talking about how he's on a team that denies that trans people even exist in the first place. Please.
  9. Super looking forward to women being sued for miscarriages.
  10. Yeah, I don't super care about canon anymore. I guess they could ham fist an Obi - Vader encounter in-between Mustafar and the Death Star as Vader still not being "the master" or whatever. Honestly if I had my way, every episode would feature Obi-Wan committing an act of perfidy, he and Anakin LOVED doing that shit in Clone Wars, just two Jedi bros casually committing war crimes.
  11. Not that canonical consistency has ever been Star Wars's strength, but it'll be weird if Obi-Wan and Vader run into one another given their chat on the Death Star. Other than that, the notion of Obi-Wan dunking on part of the Inquisitorius is rad and I'm into it.
  12. Ben Dreyfuss knows exclusively the worst people, he got dunked on recently for saying that dads regularly make jokes about “if only she wasn’t my daughter” at bat mitzvahs, was confused about why Trump had been given a hard time about equivalent shit he said about Ivanka, and insisted everyone who didn’t believe him was making shit up. Guy is patient zero for brain worms.
  13. These D+ miniseries are what they are at this point. In hindsight even WandaVision and FatWS were like this even if it’s to a somewhat lesser extent. Even if they added episodes to this, or to Loki… they got to where they wanted to get to. They’re not being kneecapped by episode count even if the pacing occasionally seems off.
  14. Men can have uteruses and I don’t trust anyone on the “pro-life” spectrum to have any kind of nuanced understanding of gender or sex to begin with.
  15. The weirdest part of the show as it pertains to the MCU, for me, is the apparent existence of actual Egyptian gods. I guess they could turn out to be aliens like Asgardians. But it sure looked like Ammit was stealing actual souls, Mortal Kombat style. Is there anything else in the MCU like this? Even the Soul Stone didn’t seem to do anything like that, Thanos / Natasha made literal sacrifices and didn’t Shang Tsung people on Vormir. And the astral plane seems different, it’s not an “afterlife.”
  16. I thought the ending was fun and since I went in expecting we’d be getting set up for more stuff as opposed to having a “definitive” ending (using a sliding MCU scale, of course), I enjoyed what we got… even if I think the entire premise of Moon Knight and Konshu’s relationship and everything we see in the underworld makes not even a little bit of sense after the stinger.
  17. I’m really sorry to hear this, Wade. Sometimes when the wheels fall off, they do so quickly. Based on everything you’ve posted about Inuk you gave him a good and happy life, and it seems like that was reciprocated. Helping a pet pass at the right time is hard and I’m sorry you’re going through this. Glad you and his mom are on the same page.
  18. 1 - What the fuck is the FBI going to do, lol. These shit stains love to violate norms but sure seem wrapped around the axle now that this one was violated. Boo fucking hoo. 2 - Gotta love these cowards dry humping the shadow docket, telling people to “read the opinion” and then not write an opinion, blah blah blah, and now they get to pout that lower lip and stamp their feet about how the precious Supreme Court is being subject to scrutiny. Fuck you. The ONLY THING with legal, long standing “historical roots” in the USA is white supremacy for straight, Christian land owners, full fucking stop. That reproductive rights are likely going to get gutted because of Heritage Foundation groomed mental invalids selected by Presidents who lost the popular vote tells you how turbo fucked the system is.
  19. I do wonder about the extent to which the press is “afraid” to talk about the extent to which things like birth control and certain gun control measures consistently measure somewhere between strong to overwhelming majority population support.
  20. “This is the same thing as January 6th,” say area morons.
