  1. And as much as many of you irritate me with the status-quo doom and gloom, basically mimicking Mouse from the Poorly Drawn Lines comic strip: It's one of my favorite places to talk current events because we're all so used to each other and not questioning motives. Hope y'all are doing well in life.

  4. There is certainly a fair emotional response to a situation that is unfair in a vacuum, that one group gets something while another group doesn’t. But in this particular instance it misses a larger issue that the system of higher education finance is itself unfair on a fundamental level. Spending more time with kids who are trying their hardest to improve their lives through education as I walk with my own children through their college career, I have an even better sense of just how little the average person understands how to pay for college, or what the expected value of a particular degree will be. How do you make rational economic decisions when so much is obfuscated, even more so when you are largely talking about 18-22 year olds who barely understand the basics of personal finance? Getting a college education does not have to be prohibitively expensive, but it has been for many people through a combination of ignorance and predatory behavior. The federal government played a large part in making this system, they ought to do more to fix what they broke. Debt forgiveness shouldn’t be the end of the process, but it is one proper step to take.

  5. I think a more effective reform would be to reform the entire Federal Court system. District Judges are randomly assigned to districts and reassigned to a district randomly every 5 years (1/5th of each district court moving each year). Appeals Court Judges are also reassigned to a different Circuit Court every 5 years same as District Judges. The Supreme Court will only have a permanent Chief Justice. 13 Associate Justices will be randomly selected from among Appeals Judges from each Circuit serving a 13 year term (one new and retiring Associate Justice every year). Chief Justice gets a double vote in the event of a tie. I don't think you need a Constitutional Amendment for any of this.

  18. How about adding back amenities like on-site child care, gyms, subsidized cafeterias, and commuter benefits that have been removed over the years? Companies got so comfortable having all the power and squeezing employees that can’t handle the new environment. It’s why it feels like they all desperately want a recession to find some leverage again.

  26. My office built a new building just before the pandemic, all open office concept, no assigned cubes, no cubes at all, just rows of desks and monitors you bring your laptop to. I would have hated it if I ever had to work there with full staff. Noisy as hell, no personality to make your space your own (pictures, knick knacks, red stapler), no privacy, impossible to take a call. I've been remote since the pandemic, even switched companies and still remote. If I work for a local company some time in the future, I'd go in occasionally, but otherwise, I see no reason to ever go back. I ain't moving.... If being in the office was required, every other aspect of the role must be a 10/10 or higher to consider. Companies that are forcing RTO are taking a hit. Bleeding talent, can't retain, can't attract replacements. It's their way to low key lay off with people volunteering to quit and they don't have to pay a severance. Eventually though they lose all historical knowledge and it's going to be rough trying to build it back up.
